I work as a freelance writer for the hobby industry and full time as a sales/marketer for a printing company.
I used to work for MRC. I was laid off during the initial height of the economic down-turn. The times leading up to that point were extremely stressful due to lackluster sales and shifting consumer spending. I would love to work in the hobby industry again, but I'm learey of putting my survival on the line working in an industry fueled by discretionary income.
If you're highly skilled you can be valuable in multiple industries. There are plenty of avenues you can explore that branch out from this hobby. They include, but aren't limited to photojournalism, full-scale aviation, marketing, event organizing, among others.
Good luck and don't give up!
