helibug replythe riddick.
Hi, the motor is a trm vx270. I got it from Al recently but had a little wait as he was having back problems.
It is the first "proper" helicopter tuned motor I have had and I am very very impressed with it.
I previously had an Oneill bros "full tune" stroked and ported unit with a stuffed crank. It did vibrate quite a bit and I don't think it ever acheived its potential as I am sure it was meant for a buggy, and to rev far in excess of the 11000 rpm I was using. There was always a mini tsunami in the tank with the OBR and it always spotted the heli with unburnt oil. Its demise was due to my reducing the oil ratio to 100 to 1, and not sufficiently richening the mixture to compensate. I now use amsoil sabre professional (having found a UK supplier) currently at 60 to 1 with pump gas.
The OBR picked up on the piston and liner around the exhaust port (as usual) and the expense and trouble in getting a replacement due to the 2mm stroker crank, made me choose a full replacement from Toxic.
Best decision I have made recently, and I would recommend TRM to all.
Thanks for your input, I will be real careful as I set the mixture.
I am looking forward to the beast x fitting, but don't know if I should update the firmware to v3. My other two beastx's are version 2 and I like them on my trex 450 sport and trex 600 nitro.
The recession means funds are really tight now and I still need some 690fbl blades for the helibug. I always used to like radix blades, but to save money I have been using align 690d's for a while and must admit they are fine.
Thats all for now. I will post my results when I get it sorted flybarrless. Cheers Keith
