hi all,
has anyone had any problems with the main gears of the apache 500 from rc aerodyne?.. mine went baLD in 2 minutes...after first flight.
note: these are the smaller gears that come with the scale body kit not stock main gears from the 500

@MightyThor: You just have to press it tightly. I lined up one side and fitted a screw, then used large slot pliers to gently press it in place.

@nuscale: What pinion gear are you using? You can't use less than 14 teeth on the pinion gear.

13 should be ok. It just says not to use 12. Maybe the mesh of the gears had too much space? Too tight? I'm using a 14t pinion, but i haven't run it up yet. I'll let you know what happens when I do.

Gear
Did the gear warp at all? How much warp can the mechanical setup tollerate?
Squeezing it in with pliers seems like it would cause some issues.
Thanks for the replys gents.

hi all,
well i got a new set of gears from rcaerodyne .. and set it up..with a 14t this time. now its seems fine..except the align70g ESC seems hotter than the other ones i have... any insights?
yes dont force fit the hub into the gear.. you will have to either shave the main gear or hub a little bit..to fit.

No, my gear didn't warp at all. Perhaps your gear was cut a little tighter than mine. I also had to put a spacer on the motor mount because the pinion's curve near the base was at the mesh point. As for the esc, I'm using the ICE HV80. But with the gearing, it says that anything under 1795 rpm is too low. I think I'm gonna try it with the governor off and set the head speed thru the transmitter. I'll try that tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
