Why would'nt someone want to upgrade their 8fg to the same programming as the super fg? Or should you just buy the super?

If your local hobby store has one left in stock. I just got my answer to my question from the futaba site. It can be upgraded.

The only difference between the two radios is that the sliders on the Super are a little longer than the 8FG.
Programming is the same.

It has often been said that the sliders on the Super are longer, but when I got both a Super & a Non Super in my hands I could see no physical difference at all and the sliders are exactly the same.

There is a very slight difference in length of the sliders, it's 1/8" or less, and the label. Other than that, same radio.

I like the ratchet on the Sliders. Seems a little stiffer than on my 12Z, not as easy to accidently move.

Also, I've heard that by changing the firmware you can upgrade the 8FG to work as a 14channel radio? Is it true? If so how do you do it? Cause I have a 8FG and would definitely want to make it a 14 if its only by a software change. any pros and cons doing it?

Adarsh

The ability to upgrade the firmware is a standard feature of the 8FG, 12FG, 12Z, 14MZ and 18MZ. There are no cons to doing this as the updates are free and typically provide you with more functionality.

Here are the links to the current firmware for the 8FG which includes the update to 14 channels and the update instructions.

fly-en, just to be clear, the 8FG and 12FG are totally different radios altogether. Now the 8FG and 8FG Super are almost identical. The difference being software making the once 8 channel into a 14 channel and some people say the sliders are longer on the Super but I cannot confirm that.

These are only my thoughts, I spent my last two cents on parts!

The sliders ARE longer on the 8FGS (1/8 inch if that). It is noticeable if you have one of each radio side by side. Other than that and the decal on the front, radios are identical once the FREE software update is done.

I took all of your advice and went with the 8fg and upgraded it. Simply put I love the radio. I wish my 10cg had the same features. Now I'm shocked that their are more people like myself, that didn't know about the upgrade. Thanks to all those who responded.
