Let me just go on record right now and admit what a total idiot I am. I waited MONTHS too long to put the SR120 tail motor on my brushless MCPX.

I now have the machine I always dreamed of - ROCK SOLID tail unlike any other motor tail I've ever flown. I didn't realize how much crashing I was doing because of the tail letting go.

Yep, I'm an idiot. But a happy idiot!

I have a mCPx and I have a 120 tail in the package. What's the best way to combine the two?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind knowing a little more about this setup. Is it plug and play, what exactly did you use, the whole tail and boom assembly with the blade or just the motor? Can you give us a little more info?

I bought the boom/motor/prop package from Horizon. First I removed the heavy wires out of the 120 boom. Then I cut the big tail boom off the motor/mount to leave the stub in the mount. Then I drilled it out to fit the smaller MCPX size boom - of which I use a solid rod and wrap the finer MCPX size wires around the outside.

This setup yields a fairly tail heavy setup because the 120 motor is HUGE but it doesn't seem to matter much - it flys fantastic.

BTW, I thought the giant 120 size prop was overkill so I trimmed about 3/16 off each end and noticed no difference in flight qualities. It's still huge.

The 120 motor really is overkill. Too bad there's not an intermediate size motor out there that would be a little lighter.

SR 120 tail push the heli yaw to rightdirection

HI GUys,
Now that I have the SR120 tail motor on my MCPX. I work great and hold great but it is only hold on the first 30 seconds of flight time. It seemed to over power tail and it push the heli nose yaw to the right direction. I tried to corrected it by moving my throtle stick to the left then the heli will stay for a few second then the tail push my heli nose yaw to the right again ???and if you are not try to correct it . it will continue push the nose yaw to the right in full circle. Everytime that the tail move . it push about 45 degree. Does anybody have this problem before when they upgrade to the SR120 tail motor and how did you correct it ? thanks-MIke
PS : how did you set up for your Rudder gain. My DX7 have +25 EXPO and 100 RUDD.

MiniH888,

Since I installed my SR120 motor it has worked flawlessly. One time it did twitch but it was because I initialized with a low battery. New battery - no twitch.

I set my rudder travel to 150% with no expo.

sr tail kicking

Guys,
Just another Fyi why this 120 SR tail MOd is kicking. It is the main shaft and main gear problem. After many crashes , your main gear is wobble but you can't see it. it seemed fine but it will wobble at a high speed. as a result it messed up your tail gyros. replace your main gear and if you see your main shaft bottom chewed up . you might as well replace it. my tail work beautiful after that replacement.

My little HeliMax inrunner has about an hour on it - still going strong. It gets pretty hot after a good thrashing though. We'll see how long it lasts.

But I think I'm going to try the HP05 (when it's back in stock):

What kind of stock frame mods are required to fit that big, fat HP05 outrunner in the frame?

I'm going to buy the Microheli frame as soon as they are back in stock. No mod needed -
