I have just puchased an ICE 50 and was wondering if anyone has a scorpion motor with this ESC on it. I dont know if I want the -6 or -8. I am usning voltz 3s 2200 45c packs. I am getting into 3d flying and was wondering what motor to choose between the two. I have to stock align motor now but was wanting a step or two up in power.

i seem to like the faster of the 2 motors with a smaller pinion. seems to make a bit more torque to keep from bogging as bad. but either of the 2 will be a step up

The -6 has a higher kv than the -8.

I'm using the -6 on mine and running 3600 rpm governed with a 13 tooth pinion... its fast and powerful. Almost too fast and powerful.

Nothing wrong with the stock motor and as you are getting into 3D I would suggest the -8 with a 13T pinion as you will get longer flight times than with the -6. Plus you can put a 12T pinion on it and get really good flight times or a 14T and get crazy power! With the -6 an 11T is the smallest pinion and gives a HS slightly higher than the -8 on 13T.

60% of the time, it works every time!

The -6 is a battery muncher. I'd go -10 and make it 4S. Maybe look into a motor around 1700kv and make it 6S.

I was running the 2221-2010, 12T pinion, Kontronic Koby on a 6S setup. The headspeed is 3000.

I got my collective management wrong on a forward flip and stalled the blades. The pinion being small with small contact area stipped the main gear.

I have now gone to the lower kv motor 2221-1630 and fitted a 14 tooth pinion. I am yet to try it out but hoping the larger contact area will make a difference. Also the motor is a little less powerful.

I am running the -8 with a 14tooth for some time now. Starts at 3700 and lands around 3400 after 3:30. But it does fly and 3D really well.

I run the -8 with the ice50 and a 13t pinion, it works really well and i do have 2200mah 45c that can last around 4 minutes.
But i think that if you get the -6 would be better for you as I'm thinking of changing also.
-6 has higher KV which gives you more head speed if you want and bottom line it has more power.
Cheers.

Unfortunately you get ought for nought. More power = less flight time. Could you honestly say you will enjoy flight times of less than 4 minutes?

If you are power hungry I think 4S or 6S is the way to go as you will get increased flight time with more power.

I run the Scorpion -6 motor with a 3s 2200mAh pack and a 55A ESC. I am lucky to get more than 3min 15sec before I must land. But the power is very good.

Depends whos flying it, at what head speed and what kind of flying!

Personally it would be 3.5 mins or less. Give it to Jo sport flyer and he'd get 5+ mins but it would be too hot of a setup for a sport flyer.

60% of the time, it works every time!
