If you have pictures of a Futura Converted to Electric. I saw one that was posted with the use of the original clutch. Can you post them or send them to my e mail address. mopardan@optonline.net

The only one I have seen was done by Bruce Naylor. I'm sure there are
others out there. He made completely new frames though;

Hello Guys

I think the one you are refering to is mine.
I just did an other one and will post the pick soon.
Have a search and you should find the old thread that I started. Some of the pics are missing though, I will try to fix that.

Thanks, Jason

Another one

I just found this accidentally. It's quite good because it shows
details of all the parts. This is a very large scale project
so the motor is massive!

Electic

Trill,
Got in touch with the guy from U Tube with the electric S/E he has a web page but having problems with getting it opened. I asked him to send me the pic's directly. I need to build a electric Bell 407 and that would be perfect that thing was flying perfect with lots of power. I need power with the 4 bladed head.

Well, the enduring thought in the back of my mind is
how easy it would be to convert a Milli 2 to electric.

One of these days I'd love to have a really nice big scale
heli, a Jet Ranger or something, but at the moment it's not
practical for me to carry around and plus I am mainly
interested in flying FAI type stuff. But I am seeing more
and more big electric helis (mostly Mikado Logod) and
liking the idea of an electric Robbe.

Electric job

Ok looks like for the first time I may have to divert my electric Robbe Scale Heli to a different brand of Helicopter. It looks like its going to be to much work to get a Futura Electric going. I'm doing a Bell 407 Helicopter 4 bladed head. I have the Robbe Long Ranger III Fuse that I can make into a 407. I guess I'm going to go with 50 or 60 size eclectic. Any suggestions from fellow Robbe guys who fly other helis to do my one time diversion here. Want to make sure its a good steady Heli like the Futura with the tail rotor in the same area as the Robbe ship. Or if you have a electric set up for a Futura please e mail me. I have to get this going soon need this ready by May 2011.

I would think the first issue would be if the 4 blade head
can cope with the 45 degree off-center swash. You would have
to be able to adjust the phasing.

Otherwise from what I have seen it looks fairly easy
to get the drivetrain converted to electric, especially in
a scale heli where you have lots of leeway on where to
fit Lipos and ESC etc.

The Milli drivetrain is totally easy, just requires a motor
mount and one hole drilled in the upper frame. Then it's just
the cost of the motor and ESC.

I will be converting a Milli 2 to a 12 cell electric as a pod and boom and will probably use the Align 700 470kv motor and maybe a Hobbywing
ESC. That's one of my winter projects.

On the Futura you'll need a bigger rear pulley if you keep
the clutch to get a better gear ratio. The other option
would be to lose the clutch and put a smaller pulley on
the motor to get a 10 to 1 or higher ratio.

4 Bladed

Trill,
I have two 4 Bladed heads, a Robbe one and a Vario. I'm not sure about the off set at this point.

So what is the biggest stumbling block with doing a conversion
on your futura?

It would seem to just be a matter of coming up with a motor
mount and deciding to use the clutch or not. It would probably be
easier not using the clutch because then all you need is a
pulley that will mount directly to the motor shaft.

Regarding alternatives to the Futura my first thought would
be the Milli 2 because it's totally easy to convert to electric
and you have the same system 88 mechanism, same tail drive etc.
