I am having problems with my jetcopter which was running fine when I quit using three months ago.
it starts ok and spools up fine to full power but after 3 to 4 minutes of hovering, it starts loosing power and hs lowers gradually... I land it and let it sit for a minute then spool up again and it does spool up fine the second time but rpm start dropping again shortly and I have to land it. If I try to do it again , it does not accelerate.. i would advance the stick to full throttle and it does nothing..

I think the problem is related to the protection mecanism that lower rpms in jetcats when temperature rises above normal values. I read in this forum that cleaning the FOD screen would help improve fresh air admission to the turbine thus cooling it down, I also read, that it could be related to failure of the temp probe.. I did clean the FOD Screen with carb cleaner and a tooth brush, Also replaced the temp probe and problem persists.

I am getting temperatures close to 720 celsius... One thing I have noticed is that even letting the turbine sit at Idle does not cool it down. My HP-5 acts as if temp was only incremental and it keeps building temperature that never lowers but that keeps going up instead preventing the turbine to spool up due to over heating.

I would Appreciate any thoughts you may have on this matter

had the same problem with my PHt3 in my NH90, My air intake was to small temp was in 700s (not enough air) try and hoover with canopy off, if ok then you will kmow its not getting enough air.
Good luck

I guess you have checked fuel filters and that stuff.

How it the pump performing? try to empty the tank a bit with the fuel pump in order to see if there a leakage in the fuel lines or filters.

By the way 700 is not a real problem i have flown with higher temps during the summer, of course it's also depending on the weight of the helicopter.

Kind regards

Ed

Double Decks, I am already flying with no canopy.

Aussieheliguy, Filters where checked and temp readings are the same with both new and old temp probe.

Ed I will test the pump.

Thanks for your input.

With no canopy, 720 is way to high - should be around 460-500.

What oil are you running and how much ?

You say you've checked the filters and temp probe, so I would seriously think about pump, bearings or combustion chamber.

You do not say how much run time is on the ECU ?

The pump is most likely not your issue, what is the last pwm read from the pump and what voltage?

you will need a usb or rs232 interface cable and the jet tronics for windows software.

what i believe is your issue is possibly the thermal probe. how many hrs are on your turbine? when did you have it serviced last?

Try to recalibrate your thermal probe and run with out a pipe. than try a short run with the pipe and notate what the temps were.

you could possible have an ECU issue as well, check to make sure that you have a good connection between the thermo prob and the circuit board.

Wow that is strange and yes they should last more than 50 hrs.

glad to hear that you have resolved your issues.
