NO COMPLAINT AT ALL

""Other issues""

Rojoalfa,, if you or any other person makes a decision to buy the HD Radical w/14mm Grips and use blades for a 12mm Grips then it is a decision NOT an issue

Well, radikal G20 HD FC is a 50 class helicopter, base on Boom dimension... Blades up to 620mm ...so grips ARE A ISSUE...

Modification from LT to HD made strange things on rotor head... ask century instead...

NO COMPLAINT AT ALL... fat shims and way to go!...

Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee...

It is not luck that has so many Radikals out there flying great.

radikal G30 problems

I have a G20 flybarless and it went together easily with no major problems. However my G30 is plagued with a start shaft drag problem.
I have spent many hours installing and removing the engine assembly trying to get the start shaft to turn freely. The engine lower side mounts screws would pull the frame in .025 each side. (engine diamention problem) The start shaft will turn freely in one spot but if the engine is rotated in relation to it the start shaft starts dragging?
I have consulted Century several times with no solution offered.
The consensus was run it. Well that proved to be a frugal fix.
I have flown it 4 times and the problem still exhists. And yes, The fan/ clutch assembly were dialed in. Will the pinion bearings take the misalignment over time? Guess I will find out sooner or later.
The method of alignment in the manual does not work on this heli.
Seems Century could have engineered a better way to accomplish the alignment.

I think you need to just go fly it and not worry about it. As I told you before, I have had some do this as well, both 20s and 30s. Nothing bad came from running them. You are expecting too much from a kit the uses engines that are produced with tolerances that are pretty broad. If you want it perfect, you are going to have to work at it. Adding shims till you get it the best it can be. Century cannot be held responsible for Zenoahs manufacturing.

G30

I was not blaming Century for the engine mount problem. I did machine shims for this peoblem. As for expecting too much? Check out the build videos and notice the statement saying to make sure the start shaft turn freely. This is what I was trying to accomplish.

I am the one who did the build videos. They were done very early on in my "Radikal Career"

As I said, this is my experience now. I was told as well that it was vital to have the shaft spin freely. But threw time and experience I have found otherwise. I do not want to even guess how many times I have mounted engines in Radikals.

Sometines they need some shimming. Sometimes it can be the order you tighten the bolts. Either way, get it the best you can and forget about it unless it is binding.

I have found that sometimes people "sweat the details " too much when it comes to gassers.

G30 start shaft

Sparx,
I have been an aircraft mechanic for 35 years. Perhaps this is a down fall in this situation. I'll keep on flying it in this case.
Thanks for your responce Spark

starter shaft... radikal G20 HD FC

/
/

Some pictures of my radikal´s assembly...

Here you have nothing to do... no shims...

On the clutch shoe, I installed one shim, not the two...

The OWB on clutch shoe need a little lube... just a little...
If I failed doing that, probably starter shaft spin freely forever...
