^^^ I don't get what you mean by "support".

support, as far as I understand it, is for upgrades and bug fixes. If you bought a 14MZ five years ago and get another 5 more years out of it you've had your money's worth. As long as a transmitter does what its suppose to do then anything else is an extra.

Futaba can only go so far as regards software upgrade for old transmitters, to ask them to support the 14MZ indefinitely is beyond the reasonable remit of any radio manufacturer.

Not sure what brochure you are reading, but the new US brochure (they had them in Orlando) shows both the 18MZ and 14MZ.

I am certain you will not miss out on any "support" from Futaba.

All system have a life time as far as manufacturing goes, but back up and support are nothing to do with that.

Many are asking if Futaba will be making updates for the 14MZ to have some of the 18MZ function - I very much doubt it as it is a new faster system altogether.

They have developed software to allow 14MZ files to be transfered onto the 18, but you will not be able to use an 18MZ file in a 14 as there are to many changes.

Just my 2 cents.

the 14MZ will eventually become obsolete. it has to, unless there are those out there who still want a slower, less capable radio.

nothing wrong with that, things come and go in this hobby anyway.

The USD has fallen dramatically relative to the J.Yen. If you adjusted the 14 MZ price, it would be today $3173. And we haven't taken into account 6 years of inflation at all. It makes the stuff I get from Ishii Mokei very expensive. With all the money Ben is printing, it will get dramatically worse very soon.

Do you think one day it will be possible to use the same rpm sensor for the gy701 and for telemetry through sbus2. In fact it is a shame to use some bus system and to have to double the sensors (regarding the automotive technology)

Roughly since the 14MZ came out:

http://www.indexmundi.com/xrates/gr...2=USD&days=1825

This ain't rocket science: 120/80 * $2299 = $3448.50 That's what a 14MZ should cost now (not including inflation). This is the result of printing money to keep the US out of a great depression.

There are no current plans to discontinue the 14MZ or stop producing software/firmware updates for it.

You can't simply apply a price index to an older model to determine a new price! Technology always gets less expensive over time. Just look at what a top of the line plasma or LCD TV would cost today using that mentality. The fact is TV's like all electronic devices get less expensive as the manufacturing costs for components come down.

The problem I see with the $2,999 price for the 18MZ is that it is out of line with other manufacturer's flagship TX. I know Futaba makes a great product, but is it really worth twice the price of the competition's product?

I know some will contend that there is no competition for the 18MZ. Even if we allow that, it won't be true for long. JR or ATX will no doubt come out with a new model that provides all the bells and whistles the 18MZ offers. I predict the 18MZ's $2,999 price tag will drop to between $1,750 and $1,999 within a year. Early adopters are always willing to pay the high price for the latest greatest product, but the masses aren't.

So you think it will sell for less than a 14 MZ does today ? Maybe they can make up the difference on volume.

Yep. Try and find anyone who has purchased a new 14MZ recently. You may find those who bought a used one, but that's about it. Futaba appears to have a policy of not lowering prices once a product is past its prime. Just look at the price for a 401 gyro. Do you really think an intelligent person would pay $150 for one today when the 520 is the same price?

don't make me laugh. JR is probably the only company that can come close to Futaba, but JR is second rate at best when it comes to innovation and software. They just don't have the development budget for it.

Futaba stands alone in this regard, but they've also become a victim of their success because they always allowed flexibility and range of functions in their transmitters that it's now become a given (hence all these suggestions and "complaints" about other functionality that the 18MZ should have). JR does not do that, they do things their way and are very reluctant to deviate from it.

Given the price the 18MZ is reasonable.
