Right on!! It will sound off or vibrate when something is wrong.
4 different vibrations you can pick from. So that means if you can't hear it, it will also vibrate (AT THE SAME TIME) to let you know. No need to look at the screen. You telling me you never looked at the TX during a flight for say trim or battery or something else, come on?!! Please everyone read the Manuel and all the posts in this and other thread's before posting nonsense like this.
I'm wondering how soon we will be seeing reports of crashes due to taking eyes off the model to check out the telemetry readout.
I'm sure it will happen on a small scale. Telemetry is not new, just new to futaba. I mean no disrespect to the person that wrought the above quote. That's why I did not say who
I like you, you just did not think it through. We all do that from time to time. OOPS

It will be interesting to see how telemetry pans out and is accepted in the marketplace. Adding sensors will increase cost and complexity as well as installation and setup time.

Has pricing information been released for the sensors? Do we know know what the accuracy and update frequency of the sensors is? I think the telemetry would be much more useful if it has the ability to log data or a least max/min and duration values during a flight.

Trust me, I did think it through and that is why I wrote it.

What is going on is somehow my comments are being taken as some sort of argument against telemetry. That is not what I am saying. It was more a comment on simple human nature. And yes, I have glanced at my transmitter to see the timer, etc. But that is different information than what is now available. And I just know that sooner or later somebody is going to use the excuse that I first noted.

It happens in full size aviation. People get fixated on the instruments (telemetry) and run into things on the ground, have mid airs, etc.

But in the long run telemetry should never be a replacement for sound operating practices. It does offer additional information that can help augment those good practices and that is how it should be used.

I spotted this on FastLad. Looks like the 18MZ will allow you to set gyro and CGY750 parameters from the transmitter for real-time fine tuning. That would be a killer feature which I hopw will become available for the 14MZ ASAP!

Dont Quote me on this

But i think your find the s-bus gyro and s-bus servo screen on the 18MZ is for setting your gyro/servo up by connecting the lead from the tx to the gyro/S-BUS servo instead of connecting it to the computor Via a CIU-2 adaptor for ajustment

least that way you can fine tune at the field without a laptop

Hobbico had a working 18MZ at the Orlando Helicopter Blowout over the weekend.

Its got all the functionality of the 14 plus more stuff. As indicated there is more SBus functionality in the s/w and programming is now much faster because the screens switch between functions instantaneously.

Steve indicated it will run well over 9 hours on a single battery charge and the battery can still be swapped out easily.

The telemetry pieces weren't available but the s/w functions for it are in there.

its a very impressive radio

I 2nd that Carey, the 18 is very impressive. I have never felt smoother sticks on a radio, the camera is great and who knows what other surprises the screen may hold upon release as the capabilities are pretty much endless.

So the 18MZ has a better screen, telemetry, rear camera, lithium battery, faster processor, and a SD card reader. Does the new software need the new hardware to work? Basically will Futaba be releasing new software for the 14MZ without the obvious features that work only with the 18MZ?

the best thing to do is to make the 14MZ obsolete like that 14MZ made the 9ZHP obsolete.

discontinue it and support it for a while is what I'd do.

I'd call it a 'breathe screen' because the touch is so light, you barely touch it and it changes screens. Not even comparible to a new 14MZ screen.

The touch screen is a similar feel to that of the iPhone screen where you simply need to touch it lightly.

I cannot wait to get mine. The sensors for reading battery voltage is going to be huge for electric helis. No more flying to timers, just set up an alarm and go fly. This is the biggest feature for me and I cannot wait to try it out.

Thanks,
Chris

I understand that this is exactley what has happened as the 14MZ did not appear in any of the Futaba 2011 brochures from Japan in any form, but the 18MZ did.
I believe that the sets being sold now are from the last of any previous production runs earlier this year.

I just read in documentation released by Robbe/Germany that the telemetry data will be captured by the TX. Through a bluetooth or wlan module (surely a payable extra) the telemetry data can be used on a laptop or smartphone. No mention if it can be directly retrieved from the SD or any mention on apps to use the data. Another option could be to copy it to a USB memory stick, but... again no mention of it.
They do confirm that you can connect the TX to your pc as if it were a USB stick (this way you don't have to copy the data to a usb stick)

no indication when the sensors will become available

Here's the link to the pdf (it's in german though).
http://www.bastler-zentrale.de/Uplo...metrie_2011.pdf

Once the TX is available I can actually buy it for 2200 euro in Spain which is not too bad

Can't wait for it to become available

*EDIT*
File seems to be from june 2011

*EDIT2*
It seems they will also make an SBus2 ESC available that will provide the telemetry data. Now how about CC or Kontronik to jump on that bandwaggon. Surely that will simplify things

I have always had great use and support of my 14mz. Obviously it's more than I would probably ever use but its a great radio. Being able to upgrade the software was one of the main reasons to buy a 14MZ. If they are no longer going to support it then why would I spend $3000 for something new just for them to forget about a few years down the road! If that's the case then I would never buy a high end radio again from Futaba.
