Been reading this with interest, Alaska is not a good place to live for year round flying, however you will adapt if you want to fly even a little.
Can't you fly like 20hours a day?

That is only in the summer time.

I have flown at 11:30 at night with plenty of daylight left to see. Its just winter time is the exact opposite. About 4 hours of daylight at its worst. But the equinox is coming and we will start gaining daylight again soon.

Like I mentioned in a different topic, at -5 degrees out aluminum blade grips are very cold!!

You guys have to be a hearty bunch to live up there year round.
I could not do it.

My blood is too thin living in SoCal.
