I recently purchased the Align stars and stripes canopy for my 500 and it fits too tight when mounted. So I rolled up a towel, placed it inside of the canopy, heated it up with a hair dryer, and allowed it to cool and sit for a few days. The problem I'm having now is the bottom portion of the canopy that slides into the bottom bracket has a slight bow to it. Any suggestions on how I can flatten it out without cracking or damaging the canopy? Thanx!

Any possibility of being able to just slide the canopy lip up to to the leading edge of the landing gear and not use that mounting lip? That's what I do on my 500 canopies and they mount like all my other Trexes. That little lip thing was a cool idea and all, but totally unnecessary. All it does is make mounting a PiTA.

You may have to relocate the mounting holes to do this. Just leave the existing canopy grommets in there and make some new ones. Don't get them any close than say 1/2" from the existing holes. I use a reamer to do this. I also open up some area around the pitch and aileron swash balls using a 1/2" dremel sanding drum to make sure I don't get any links hanging on the lip.

Aside from that, why can't you just heat up that area and see if you can persuade it to cooperate?

I'm going to give that a try. I'm just not sure of what I can use to keep it flat while being heated other than manipulating it with my hands.

Do it on the heli, or use a pair of pliers (locking vice grips might be best) with pieces of wood.

Good idea. I'll try that.
