Whoever designed this never though that the glow plug sometimes need removing or what????

The align 55 engine has had only 1 tank through so far. It is flooding like there is no tomorrow, dripping fuel through every possible seal...backplate etc. So naturally going into hydrolock constantly....
I'm trying to fix the problem (richening all the needles from the factory setting...hope that works) but until i manage to solve this i need to remove the glow plug again and again....

...Great designers hid the glow plug at the bottom of a hole where even the fingers of a 5yr old would not go...so to manage to give the glow plug that 1/4 of a turn that will settle it on the thread before i can screw it in fast is a NIGHTMARE....At least they could provide a specific tool to help with this process!!!

Voila, that was my rant....I am so frustrated with this flooding problem i could really do without the glow plug on top!

man just start it with a piece of fuel tube.... or buy a glow plug tool... your making it more difficult than it really is.

Well i do have a glow plug tool but it's not long enough...between the fan funel hole and the frame/undercarriage overhang, i got to use an extended pipe to get it. did not think about the fuel line trick...will have a go at that....thks for the tip

1. Use the a clip on the fuel line (There is one in the kit I think)
2. I have use THIS with a 8mm socket to tighten and loosen and a piece of fuel tubing to insert it.

You may need a 5/16" nut driver for the plug and a fuel clip to stop fuel flow when ever the engine is not running. These 2 things will make it a lot easier to manage the starting of your engine.

Thks both Nicks. I must say I have used the tube clip but have probably uncliped it to much in advance (guess best is to wait for the last second). Tool wise I am set and will use the fuel tubing trick going forward, that should save my sanity and spare some foul language to neighbours' ears!

For the life of me, there must be a trick to prevent this fun spoiling flooding issue on these engines!

The trick is to clip the fuel line after each flight, re-fuel the heli and only undo the clip right before starting the engine.

Like others have said before, you can use a piece of fuel tubing to get the glow-plug started, works great.

Enjoy your heli

I always disconnect the fuel line from the engine when I get back to the bench after a flight... always.. or it will flood and hydrolock sometimes in hot weather. I keep a couple fule line plugs to place in the line to the tank when not flying.

Its not the engine per say, its just the geometry of the engine and tank positions. Also with any new engine check/tighten the back plate bolts, the head bolts and re check after a flight as it heats and expands initially.
