Ok guys bear with me here. I made the jump to flybarless with a new 550e 3gx. I think I have the setup down but my question is this.
I know I need 100% throws when I program the unit but for flight is it possible to run a dual rate for forward/aft right/left cyclic? As long as I program it at 100% percent throws when I switch to a lower rate on the transmitter The unit should still know what the max throws are for stabalization right? or will I just need to tame it down with expo?

Oh man I just bought those blades!

Program with the values you need (at least minimumrecommended cyclic pitch).
Then you have a number of options to slow it down.
You can reduce swash percentage (just don't go below 50%), add in a dual rate on A/E, or use the programmer to reduce the Aileron Control Rate and Elevator Control Rate.

My suggestion.
Set up recommended minimum cyclic pitch in DIR more.
Then use the programmer to set following
- reduce Aileron Control Rate from 70 to 50
- reduce Elevator Control Rate from 70 to 50
- reduce Bell value from 70 to 60.

That will slow it down quite a bit, and make it a little less twitchy around center. If it is too slow, bring A/E Control rates to 60

Dual rates are an option though? I would like to have a milder rate for normal flying around but I also like to have a wilder side when I do some flips rolls ect. this is the way I've always done all my helis but I understand that FBL is a whole new beast.

Thank you for your help.

Once you are done setting up in DIR mode, you can add Dual rates.
The FBL system has no visibility as to whether you are running half stick deflection or full stick and 50% DR.

That said, I would drop the bell a little, add 10% expo and just fly. Your fingers will get used to it!

Hey.

Yes, dual rates and exponential are all possible with the 3G/3GX to fine tune your heli to taste. I run as much as 30~40% expo on my aileron & elevator depending on the model.

Remember the 3GX comes with 3 preset settings from Align and so it might be worth trying them out before moving onto user ones. As this way you can start with one of the presets then alter the settings to suit your own individual flyign style.
