Hi Sophie, long time no see, must be at least 5 years! I just joined RR and was supprised to say the least when your name came up !
Seems you have doubters but then you were allways direct.
Glad to hear you're following the alternative energy path but supprised you're still on nitro helis. Can't say I blame you though.
Why would you want to move to America as things are pretty screwed for the forseeable future. Europe and Australia is where it's happening at the moment so you might want to stick around because the alternative energy market is picking up fast, particularly with ground source heat pumps and PVs although I doubt we'll catch up with Germany.
I recently fitted another PV array, this time using the Enecsys microinverters which for the same rated pannel layout, delivers 20% more energy. You may have seen my 1st system which uses a string inverter as there was no choice at the time and my performance predictions turned out to be correct although this used the earlier HIP pannels. On a good day, my new Sanyo HITs really do the job as the bandgap issue addressed it pretty well. Am very pleased and I'm now making money rather than spending it on electricity. My biggest gripe is that these systems only operate with a live grid due to the GU regulations but hopefully that may change in the future if the fragility of our grid is recognised as being susceptible to the predicted increase in solar radiation to rival that of 1958. We'll see.
I remember you discussing heliostats. This is one of my next projects, to design a tracking system to boost my existing arrays given their east-south-east orientation. That will be a few months away as I need to implement the mechanics and sort out the maths for solar precession. Perhaps one of your mates at uni could lend a hand.
What ever happened to your idea of the Tuk Provo ?
