Hi,

I have got the helical 188t Main Gear from a 600 and I want to put it on my 550 (My local hobby shop was out of stock of 550/170t ones). What I would like to know is what pinion I should use if I want to swing 550mm blades? What head speed should I be aiming for on my governor? I'm currently learning piro-flips so 3D of sorts.

I'm guessing either the 15t or 16t?

What do you think?

Thanks

Mike

Reading around it seems I need an 18t, does that sound right?

Do they make a mod1 helical pinion that size?

I thought it was only 12t or 13t

Ah yes sorry you are on about the older helical gear not the new one,yes they do show pinions as you describe.

Have you tried using Mr Mels headspeed calculator to run some figures for the different pinions?

Watch out on those single helical gears: they stress the motor by pulling the shaft outward.

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.
