I think it will be good if we were able to safely keep individual voltages equal.
Is there going to be any real advantage trying to balance the cells in an rx pack?

Not something thats been done for, oh the 20 or so years we have been using nicads and nimh cells so its not something I would sweat.

Unless you over discharge the pack and reverse the polarity on a cell I think you will find they stay pretty close by themselves.

you could if realy wanted to but unecessary they will balance themself on a full charge.

unlike lipo if 1 cell was low and you use it it may over discharge that 1 cell

Its actually something that has been done for years in RC car racing but because the history is grounded in NiCd cells its done from the other end of the charge cycle! The Cells in a race pack are all matched for capacity as closely as possible. After use the cells are all discharged to exactly the same voltage so putting them in balance. Until NiMh, most cells were stored discharged.
One Dutch company, i assume inspired by the balancing at the charged end of the cycle with LiPo's built a charger that balance charged the cells, it was very expensive and was too late to catch on. With well matched cells the cells were all charged at almost perfectly the same time and since they could handle a tiny amount of overcharge it wasnt an issue. Trickle charging is the best way to use this feature to get all cells fully charged, however trickle charging reduces the cells performance.
All this kit however was designed for 6/7 cell packs.... and laterly 5 cells.
