Just finished installing the new Xera 4530-500 in my TDR. With a 15T pinion I expect it will go pretty well

Where can I get that sexah bastid?!?

Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee!! Exactly what I need. Anything but Scorpion space heaters. Who's the man to talk to for that baby? How much? Publicly available? Delivery date if it's not? I'll go first on the list for orders. Have you flown it yet? Is it anything like the 4035-3Y 400kv I have in the wife's Logo 600? I want one, can you tell? lol

Sorry a bit off topic but i see you have a 4 cell pack for the jive as well.
Do you plug it in first or the pack first?

Danny, sorry for going off topic here, but how are you finding those Radix v2's. Do they perform better that Radix FBL?

Yes, the buffer pack is plugged in first, then the main pack.
Danny, sorry for going off topic here, but how are you finding those Radix v2's. Do they perform better that Radix FBL?
The Radix V2's are quite nice. They are more agressive than the FBL but still very stabile at high speed. I did have to lower my rates/increase expo for speed runs but that is to be expected.
Nice paint job on the canopy Danny, who did it?
Scott at Ace Helis. He does very nice work at a reasonable cost.

First flights

I put a few flight on the machine with the 4530. As expected it runs smooth, makes great power and the temps were not too bad. After 4 minutes which was mostly wide open the highest temp was 165F at the base of the motor mount. The pinion was 125F and the can was 155F. This is with a closed canopy, no vent holes. The Jive was 135F. The 15T pinion I have is a bit much for my style of flying but it sure goes like stink on the top end. 40% TC = 1630 RPM, 70% TC = 2100 RPM. I did not measure what was used from the packs but they came down at 115F and 22.4v. My packs are Voltz 45C 4500's and have a bunch of cycles on them. I think I'll grab some 65C's before I leave for IRCHA.

So if memory serves me still you had a new-style Hacker Turnado in that thing I think. So compared to that 4035-style motor how does this one size up? I'm wanting some more power but I'm not looking for the crazy temp/bearing issues either. Your numbers look good for no air flow under the hood. If you say it's got more sack than your last one did then save me one and I'll get it from you guys when you get back from IRCHA. Me and the Mrs. aren't going this year. I just want to make sure you don't sell out before you come back is all. It's too hot to fly here anyway so anytime between now and October works fine by me. A new Xera motor and some morning nitro and I'll be ready to tear up the skies when the temps drop under 120F every day.

Any signs of rubbing anywhere Danny? Looks like a very tight fit.

It is no tighter than the Scorpion 4525LE. No sign of rubbing yet but I have not pushed it really really hard yet as I'm trying to keep it in one piece for IRCHA. I did apply some anti-scuff tape to the inside of the frames around the motor.

Ultra High Molecular Weight Tape
For applications where something can rub I use this. The only downside is it will yellow with age so it is best used on the inside of things.

3M Polyurethane Protective Tape
This also works and is great for protecting wires from frame edges. It will fold around the edge of the frames and stay put. It is also water clear and will not yellow so it does not show where you have it.

I would like to know how the 4530 compares to the 4525 LE on terms of power and cooling.

Wednesday at IRCHA the plan is to swap out Rob's 4525LE with a 4530 Xera in his TDR. Then we will have back to back data to compare. BTW, the Xera shaft is 40mm long and needs to be shortened a bit to fit in the TDR.

I have not checked my motor with a temp gauge but I would guess the 4525-520LE is close to or more than 200F, Thats pushing it pretty much to the limits for 5 minutes.

I'll let you guys know how the Xera works out
