Have any of you ever put the GY 401 on your 550 just to see how it would hold? If so, what did you think of it?

What kind of flying are you planning on doing with it? Basic, sport, mild 3D, hard 3D, etc? It's a solid gyro for most of those, but there are better ones out there if you're planning on a lot of fast backward flight or piro maneuvers.

Both basic and sport flying for me at the moment. I recently upgraded to the CF tail control rod, and now the dredded tail wag is back. I thought I would throw on the 401 for the hell of it to see how it performs. I'm running out of things to try to rid of the wag.

I had a GP750 that I never had much luck with. Could never get rid of the wag on my Mini Titan 450. Went back to a 401, no problems. Your mileage, of course, may vary.

I have Spartan quarks and gy520's
But I do have a 780 on my fbl 550E and its rock solid.
I was going to even put my gold case Spartan on it until I flew it with the stock 780
and was blown away. Guess I got lucky with a good one because you hear alot of neg on the 780's

I had good luck with the 780 until recently. I think I will pull the 780 off of my 500 and give it a try also. The casing of the gyro that is currently on the 550 got damaged a little after a recent crash, so maybe the internals are screwed up. If that doesn't fix it, I will definately put the 401 on.

EDIT...NEED HELP!

I put the Gy401 on 2day and everything seemed to be OK at first. When I apply hard left or right rudder stick the piro rate is crazy fast. I'm using a DX7 and the tail servo is an Align DS620. The travel adjust %'s are set to 100% for rudder and 100% for gear. The gyro pots are set to 15 for delay and 75 for limit. The gyro gain % in the tx are both set to 60%. I always fly in HH mode only. What can I do to slow down the piro rate?

That one is easy.
The rudder travel limit is your prio rate. At 100% it's at max rate. Turn the ATV (or travel limit) on the rudder channel until you are at a rate you are comfortable with.

Be sure to do the left and the right.
