Is Tareq attending IRCHA? That dude needs to be in this competition. Since the crowd pretty much chooses the winner, I think Tareq could win this with his eyes closed.

Thanks

If the contest was done in a 30'X30'X15' enclosure.

He's amazing talent, but I get tired of watching 95% in-ya-face smackdown. If the man puts in a few long vertical and diagonal strings on his routine with speed and he would be complete.

Indeed Tareq deserves to be included if he could attend.

This year the ONE will be even better, and hopefully not so hot!

"...Since the crowd pretty much chooses the winner..."

The rules of 2011 have changed, I believe in an effort to get the competition more in line with other established world-class 3D comps.

New is required maneuvers flown strictly for precision (no music), so some of the scoring is now allocated to that. There is also the "freestyle" portion, which must be flown to music. The weight in the scoring scheme from the crowd's "yelling" has thus been downgraded, to have less influence in the final score (the overall idea is to judge the pilot's flight, not the local popularity of the pilot).

The rules posted on IRCHA's site have not yet been updated. The new rules have been e-mailed to the competitors.

Tareq is THE master at "smack". Undisputed. But he apparently chooses to be absent at major 3D competitions, as they don't suit his style of flying.

Interesting they decided to change the ONE competition format. I actually liked the idea of watching a contest that is different and focuses on a pure flight (no known stuff). I mean there are already how many other contests that follow the normal format already. Having something different can actually help push the flight envelope more and in a shorter time. Alot of sports have followed the path of pure throw down style events and it has seriously pushed the progression of the those sports in a very short time. This is most likely another one of my unpopular opinions but that's how I feel.

Stop and think of what you're saying for a minute.
This is the second annual "The One" competition. Last year the contest was won not because of a pilot or his flying abilities, but because of the zany antics of the Moonwalking spotter. Sensei Rick won that competition, NOT Bobby.
How can you make a "Pure Flight" argument when the winning flight last year was more about moonwalking than flying?

With the rule change they're making sure it is about "pure flight" first and foremost.
Last year, had I hired a topless chick to be my spotter that would have been me with $7,000 in my pocket.

The "One"...

One chance, One flight...One winner.

Let it all hang out for that One flight...winner take all.

Let the crowd decide this ONE...

It was nice to have a different competition instead of trying to make everything the same all around the world.

Have Rotors, Will Fly!

I agree that Tareq is a great pilot but watch one of his flights you've seen them all. He doesn't participate in competitions because their are lots of maneuvers he can't do. He only uses right rudder, therefore doesn't seem to be able to reversals etc.
I don't want to seem to be mean, I do think he is a great pilot and I would like to see one of his flights live, but only one flight.

I appreciate the kind words, but really, I'm not that good. I'm anything but a pro.

About Bobby donating the money-- Yeah, thats great. But whoever wins this year, I already know some guys are going to try and lay on a guilt trip if the winner doesn't do like Bobby did last year. I can hear it already.
The winning pilot absolutely deserves to keep 100% of his winnings. $7,000 can't even begin to recover the expense and the losses in this money pit of a hobby.
So lets see what happens this year with the winner??????????
Translation: Will the winner donate the money to charity or will he be a Selfish jerk and keep it?

This is exactly what I mean. You're already starting to lay on a guilt trip and we don't even know who the winner is yet!

I agree, I don't think I would want to even be in the contest with that kind of guilt trip hovering over it. One thing though, I will not ever be put in that position,as I can't fly at that level

I would make a donation(as I did last year) but I would at least like to have paid for my trip first

And:

"It was nice to have a different competition instead of trying to make everything the same all around the world."

Response

Well, it's not like the pilots are now prohibited from "...letting it all hang out..." for the freestyle portion of the competition. And it's not like they now have multiple rounds and scores they can throw-out like some other competitions world-wide.

It's still "...one chance, one flight, one winner."

What's changed is it's just become harder now to be "The One". I mean, if you're gonna say that one pilot (in that moment in time) is the "one best in the world", shouldn't he be able to at least piro flip in both directions..or tic-toc in various orientations?

The set maneuvers will tell.

Say what you will about Bobby's flight or how he won, He, They, put on a heck of a show that was a blast to watch and thats why he won. It was different and every one enjoyed it. It's a ton of fun to see that much effort put into what they did.

I think it would be cool to have a 2 part competition. Something like they do in NASCAR, there could be a vote for "Fan favorite"
With a smaller prize

Honestly I agree with this 100%. I was there and that is the way it rolled out.
