Finally pulled the trigger after much debate and reflection. The clincher was that my older stuff is using the AR6100 v1.2- which would need to be upgraded at the least- maybe even replaced.

For anyone shopping around for an 8FG, Tower Hobbies (authorized futaba dealer) sells the 8FG for $479. Become a member for $10 and its $459. A code removes another $50, so thats $409.

And then $150 for the trade up and thats a brand new 8FGHS Super for $259. Woooot!

Luckily my DX7 died, so this was perfect timing with the trade up. Sorry to the dude at the LHS who I have ignored to buy this, and thanks for all the input from those who were kind enough to offer great advice.

You will love this transmitter, I know I love mine, have it for 1 and a half years now, upgraded the program and it's now a 14 channel radio.

Why yes, I did get the free rx

You don't get the $20 member discount, but a free $90 rx is way better.

When they give you $150 they do lose nothing they only have a little margin profit, you have to spend those $150 in Futaba electronics so they recover some money and the fact to destroy any other radio does mean less competence in the market because you cannot sell your old Tx to nobody.

I think they do lose money- initially.

This is good business for Futaba, they are really making an effort to convert Spektrum users.

It's a classic Loss Leader Strategy.

They are most likely losing money with that $150 trade up program, and even if you use that $150 to buy new Futaba gear the profit margin is so low they are not getting that $150 back.

BUT once you are over the fence you most likely wont be coming back, so all future recurring revenue will go to Futaba.

For guys like me this is perfect! Broken DX7? Check! AR6100 v1.2 that shouldn't be used? Check! Free futaba rx? Check! $150 back? Check! $50 coupon? Check!

What a total deal.

Look again at the Futaba website version. It states "Send in your old 2.4GHz system". Then as you have quoted above it says "Futaba 2.4GHz radios are not included. This basically means that your not allowed to send a Futaba radio period.
