Real helies have a tracking adjustment process (invoving cameras and so), so I don't think that insuring equal lengths on rods can get tracking right, there's too much in it (the tolerances in the blades profiles for example).

As said, it's not been a major problem yet, but I have sometimes though "why don't they use Turnbuckles" so we could just give a little 1/4 turn (or even less while fine tuning) between two flights just to see if it's better. Right now this isn't possible, as you have to squeeze the link off (wear) and do a 1/2 turn (or even a full turn if the A must point outwards!!!)

BUT I don't go as far as a petition

Turnbuckles and digital pitch gauge is the only way to go........
I agree I love the fine tuning you can do leveling the swash and tracking with turnbuckles. I use a .0001 dial indicator to level the swash and can get it within 5 10 thousandths of an inch. Also use a digital pitch gage and video to adjust and verify tracking. Is it necessary maybe not but I do love precision!! I have my turnbuckles tight enough I still have to pop them off but I can make small or large adjustments with them. Always hated being at the mercy of one turn in or one turn out.

Yup i agree you maybe close with the half turn but even if you think they are spot on i bet there not. Check with a digital pitch gauge i bet not

Again come on align give use turnbuckles, you know we will buy them up.

I;ve used the Davinci turnbuckles on a 500fbl and they worked great, unfortunately all my pitch rods tend to depart the airframe on hard landings involving sudden stoppage.
I imagine they might use cameras to assist with track n balance these days, but a decade ago it was the reflective tabs screwed to the blade tips, a pick up on the swash and a timing light. Jet Rangers were easy, 500's brought/added trim tabs to the table with their different zones for different forward speeds. quick tuns in a 500 = blades going out of track and then returning.
30 years ago they used to walk a pole and flag deal into the tip of rotating blades, each blade was marked with a diff colour grease pencil.

I'd vote for the turnbuckle option. More precision is good.

I personally think it would be a good thing for Align. Right now you spend around $30 to replace all the links on a 700n FBL's. I know align can cheaper and better.
