if the grass is really short, practice on grass. It will save you a few $$$$ sometime, instead of a hard pavement hit.
But be careful as grass can sometimes catch the skids and tip the heli over.
Sounds like a trimming issue, and swash isnt level in that particular stick position

Yes, I beleive the swash needs leveling, I just read on another forum of this same issue, fairly common I suppose. The trim adjustments on the radio will correct to some extent, yes? I'd rather be dialed in without using too much trim though.

Believe me when I say it goes to the left FAST when it leaves the ground, too much for a beginner to compensate for when not expecting it. A seasoned pilot may not even give it a second thought to correct in flight though. I'm sure some of it is my lack of experience.

left movement

its hard to say without knowing what it is doing before the training gear. The training gear could be a cause of it. Might start by checking the CG on it with the gear on. CG (center of gravity) See if its leans heavy left when balancing on the flybar rod.

yeah correct, and do all mechanical adjustments without adjustments in radio first. Trim only fine tunes it in. Try giving a bit of right cyclic and once in hover let go, and if it goes left its mechanical more than likely.

I flew it this morning and it actually trimmed out pretty good. I gave him some hints on hovering and he will continue to work at it. I was going to fly my heli for him, but I had a mechanical issue to deal with.
