I have helped out alot of people wanting ot get into this hobby and never even thought to take money from them for wanting to learn.

Its just part of making our hobby survive and I wouldn't be where I am today if people had done this to me when I was learning.

I have met some phenominal people in this hobby that would give you the shirt off their back to help out and I have met others that would try and get money out of people for something that could be adjusted in min.

I truly believe in paying it forward.

I'd do it for $0.00 Per Hour. I'd build a newbies heli from kit, install all electronics, and get it RTF. But he's going to set right their and watch me do it, and hand me the tools. So he learns. And I'd even teach him to hover all way around to forward flight. Also 100% Free...But might take several sittings. But now to do it as a job, over and over again, for many different people I'd have to charge something as it would infringe on my time. Lets say $40.00 start to finish, to build it and get it RTF. Flight lessons a few free, then Yells go buy a Damn Sim....

Where I fly, we help everyone. I would not dream of charging, I just want to help others and give back.

I guess I'm blessed to have a great group of guys who like to help each other without wanting payment. I've heard about that kind of stuff, but have never witnessed it. As stated, it's good to pay it forward and there are alot of intrinsic rewards for helping folks other than money. But hey, if WC can help someone get started in one of the most complicated and rewarding hobbies known to man, and make a little spending cash on the side, more power to him!

I'm sure if he busted someones heli up due to his own error, that he would make it right. If not, he'd probably not have many repeat customers.

This is where I have a problem with him charging for work. He has not showed anyone that he properly sets up his own heli's. Doing a basic hover in the AMA chartered alley doesn't show what your knowledge or skills are. Honda411 and JC Zenkl are two people that I know and would trust them to work on my heli. Not that I need to nor would pay, but I know they are accomplished pilots and know how to properly set up their helis.

I'am confused-- there's a WC claiming to be a mentor in the beginner sec.-- WC thanking a mentor for driving 2hr's to help setup his 450 on 7/14/11--WC charging $50 per hour to setup beginner's heli. and $25 to to join his club. Who's who, they can't be the same person- could it?

Well if it isn't him, he can come here and clear things up. If you look at the craiglist ad, it sure looks like his helis in the pics.

It is odd that WC hasn't posted on this thread. He's usually very active, so it may be safe to assume he's a bit embarassed by all this, as he should be... My biggest issue, the $25.00 fee to join his club... What club? Where is the field? Is it AMA sanctioned? Did he have a aunt go and leave him 50 acres of open land in SOCAL someplace?

Actually I don't think AMA sanctions alleys with garage doors that close.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter
