ok so cant somebody rig up a smoke machine with the same smell as nitro to put in an elec heli and it will be the best of both worlds
Castle tried but they couldn't get the smell right!

Friends don't encourage friends to fly helis! It can cause part shortages.

Whatever I want.

I'll be trying different gearing to see what combination of pitch and RPM works best.

That's EASY.
Just douse your e-heli with Nitro...and wait.
It's just a matter of time.

I like that the expansion of electric power systems is putting it even further ahead of nitro...anyone seen all the new 7S packs coming out for the 750/800 class helis? This can be done easiest with electric, though nitro may make a surge with the new line of 1+ cubic inch motors. I'd just hate to feed one of those things...What 5 flights out of a 30$ gallon?

Holy thread resurrection, Batman.....
But yeah I've been secretly hoping the "big block" engines might help keep electric from totally taking over and being our only option for power systems.

Especially in the upcoming 800 class. I'd hate to see it be 100% electric with no nitro options. I don't know if the OS 105 / YS 120 would be enough power to be satisfactory on a machine that size or not, but if the demand would be there, maybe engine manufacturers would make even bigger engines lol.

>I'd just hate to feed one of those things...What 5 flights out of a 30$ gallon?<

To be honest, even at $100 case + hazmat, my trex 700N nitro flies, like, 9 times as much as my electric (a 700E). It's turning out to be the convenience. I can toss the 700N and a jug of fuel in the truck at a moment's notice, but the E takes at least an hour to prep. And if I get to the field and the wind is over 20kts, bringing my 3 batt packs down to storage charge is a brutal couple of hours on my charger. The jug of nitro, tho, just goes back in the corner with the heli.

I'm fixing to put my 105 in the N over the next couple of days, so it'll be interesting to see what the fuel consumption is like. It'll be nice to have -ish electric-like power but with the convenience of the fuel jug...

Oh man Rog, you had to go dig this up again. Shoot, if anybody feels they got messed up over this topic, you should be this local boy I stuffed a 91 in his Trex 600. OMG it's funny as heck. That crate breaks down like twice a week. I never saw someone wrench a heli so much.
