I'm looking to upgrade from a Futaba 401. JR770 or Spartan Quark are the two I'm looking at. I am not a hard core 3D flyer but I am looking for something a step or two above the 401 at this point. I do tumble, loop, roll, fly some inverted.

I had 3 770s upgrades to all Spartans. After flying spartans, I would rather pay NOT to fly the 770.

You can not go wrong with either the 760 or the quark, but run screaming from the 770.

I have two of the 770's now and really like them. You're not the first person to pooh-pooh them but I have never had an issue with them. What was your experience?

Random violent tail wags after hard piro manuvers.

Lower the gain, and the tail wouldn't hold, raise the gain and the wags got more frequent.

Move the ball in, no help, move it out, no help.

Gave em a year, then bought a Protos with a Spartan on it, and boom, perfect tail. Then upgraded all to Spartans. Set em and forget them.

The 770's work for some people, but not me.

Yeah, this is the same stuff I have heard from others. I dont consider myself an expert gyro setter upper. I do consider myself lucky with the 770 I guess. I may have to try a Spartan.

They are in the classified for under $100, all day long.

You can get 760s for $85.00.

It took me a lot of playing around to get a good tail with the 770. Switched to the Quark and it was less than a 4 minute setup with a more solid tail. Quark wins hands down.

BTW, I just took a Quark off my 700 when I installed a VBar on it. Replaced the 401 I had on a Raptor 50 with the Quark. No more tail blowouts on the Raptor.

Tail blow outs with the 401 is what I'm hoping to eliminate as well. I can swap a 770 on it but I need another gyro anyhow so may as well keep moving forward.

On the cheap, the Align GP750 (not the 780) is much better than the 770 or 401, and can be found used for around $50, no tail blow out flying backwards!!!!

How does the Align 750 compare to the Spartan Quark? Despite Poverns claim that Quarks come up for sale all day long for under $100, I haven't seen one come up for sale since his post 5 days ago . I have run across a couple Align 750's though.

Wait for the quark, or go with the 760. I find I like the feel of the 760 better on 500 sized helis and bigger.....

I would not recommend the align gyro. But in all honesty, I have not flown one.

Then I would go with either (Spartan), but lean towards the 760. I remember somewhere that the quark was designed with the Micros (250) sized helis. They work great on big ones, but I run 760's on anything that is 450 and larger. Why? they are cheaper, and they fly great.

No Comparison

Buy the spartan and be happy!

Buy the the 770, and listen to other people tell that you didn't set it up correctly?

The choice is yours.
