Guys,

Could someone clear up a couple of questions i have regarding a new 500mx motor i wish to install.

The old 500L motor was rated at 650/850W, with manual saying the current draw on 6s 13T pinion at 12 deg pitch should be 34 amps.

The new 500mx motor's data sheet states that it rated at 1600/2300W, but the current draw as above is only 33 amps?

Also when you check Aligns own data you get:

500MX - 75/110A
600MX - 90/150A

60A esc - 60 (70)A max
70A - 70 (110)A max

Now Align supply's the 70A esc with a 500esp (500mx), and 70A esc with 550esp (600mx).

What am i missing?

Can i use the stock 60a esc with the new 500mx? Or have i got to change to the 70a?

To confuse even more my lhs says i need a 100A esc !!!

Please can you help me,

david

Thanks, what is your setup - assume 6S 13T 100% throttle?

Have you had any issues at all with the esc, have you capped your max pitch etc... to reduce amp draw, because the numbers say it shouldn't work?

Yup, no problems here. Plug and play with the 60a and never look back. Fantastic upgrade to the Trex 500L or M. I think you will love it. As far as numbers are concerned, the only thing I can say is "It just works"....and great too!

My packs are all around 2700mah, my flight times with the 600L are about 6 minutes - what should i expect from the 500MX.

It is variable based on HS and how you fly. I would guess 5:30. You would be very safe to start out at 4:30 for your first flights.

Guys,

Thanks for all your help and advice, had a couple of test flights tonight with the new motor, and it's great !!!

Set timer at 4.30 and had around 3.8v left, so will monitor once I get a bit more used to using the power.

Thanks again,

David

4:30 mins with 3.8v left is almost exactly what im getting from my new 500 (5 flights old)....im going to try lower headspeed abit and tweek the up the Vbar agility to try and get 5+ from it.

The 500 is turning out to be a great little machine....... perfect size to have in the boot of the car...so I can go flying when the wife is shopping......

Ian, which motor are you running in your 500?

Guys,

Need some help, had a couple more serious flights today and seem to have a problem early in the flight which goes away after maybe 30-60 secs.

Here goes, take off into a low hover, then stationary forward flip. But as i transition through the flip, I get a wobble out of the tail which I've never had - and after a short fly around, come back and do flips again, no wobble.

So the issue is only there right at the start of a flight, and only lasts for a short while (I have had zero issues with the tail, before I fitted the 500MX) - but the 500MX has turned it into a missile, so I'm keeping it.

Could it be that the gyro gain needs turning down, because of increased headspeed at the start of a flight?

I'm not 100%....but I think the MX does have a slightly higher kv.....so lowering the gain would be the first thing I'd try.....

Nope, still at 1600

Align 500MX Brushless Motor 1600kV

HS is higher though, this thing makes great power.
