Went to throttle up and saw the dreaded smoke monster come out of the .
canopy. When I looked it over I saw the tail motor connector had pulled out of the socked and was just touching. I believe it had shorted out the two female sockets. The power transistor on the other side of the board just below the socket fried. (It's possible I might be able to replace it but that's another story).

One way or the other you better believe I'll be putting a drop of Goop on the connector from now on - Horizon just gouged me $79 bucks with shipping for a new one

For $79 you got a spektrum DSM2 receiver, flybarless 3 axis gyro, and 2 ESCs. Wish I could get all that for $79 for my 700.

Watch the tail boom wire also I had one do the same thing and after inspection I could see that the wires had rubbed bare from inserting the boom in the frame a few times and shorted out frying my board.

and the blonde said "RECTUM, Hell damn near killed em!!"

Seems cheap enough for me too...LOL Anyway always always preflight your heli. I look mine over before first flight and after any type of crash no matter how minor it looks. 160 flights on mine and it's box stock and no b grips still as solid as it's first flight.

No B grips??

I cannot believe your stock grips lasted 160 flights. You must have flipped the bearings, since it appears that's all HH is doing.

And as for bone stock, there are several simple mods that add little weight but do WONDERS for durability. I'll list:

1) Change crummy tail tube to solid rod. Never need another tail!
2) Reinforce front canopy mounts with transverse 1mm carbon rod/thread/CA. Now the frame will last the life of the machine.
3) Fill the hollow main shaft with 1mm rod. Last shaft you will ever need! Also glue gear on.
4) Tie blade links together with 1 1/8" thread. You'll never lose another link. (you will still break a few though).
5) Reinforce the aft landing gear nipple with a little thread/CA. Helps reinforce that area that is weak due to the casting dent that they all have. This will help that area last at least 50% longer.

These 5 things dramatically increase durability of this wonderful little machine.
