I acquired a 50 size(I think) that I'll be setting up for scale. Actually, I got the fuselage and mechanics already. Right now it's electric. I want to use a gas engine instead of nitro/electric. I'm brand new to scale models and also to the century helicopters.

All my heli's are Trex's...and previously Raptors.
What size motor will be needed for a large Century fuselage. Any special parts required?

The fuselage this will be going in is a stretched out Airwolf heli with nav lights, retracts and a onboard camera. The set up weighs about 5lbs.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

""Right now it's electric""

if it's the Century Swift Mechanics it's an Electric only Mechanics,

if it's 30/50 Glow Mechanics guys have converted them to Electric,, so I am still not sure what you have, can you post a photo ??

"" I want to use a gas engine instead of nitro/electric""

if it's a Century's Electric Swift or a Century Plastic Framed 30/50 Glow Mechanics you will not be able to fit a Gasoline Engine in the Mechanics,,
again post a photo of the Mechanics please and we will tell you what it is,,

""The fuselage this will be going in is a stretched out Airwolf""

if it's a Funkey Fuselage you will have to measure it and then go to the HeliWorld site and get the Specs to find out if it's a 30 or 50 or 60/90 size Fuselage

I have been sounding so negative in my posts lately and I don't mean to. But, I don't think you can get there from here. Converting a 50 size nitro heli (and we're still not sure that's what you have) to gas engine makes them heavy and hard to work on if you can make it fit at all. Now trying to toss those heavy mechanics into a scale fuselage is going to make it an overheating outright pig. I doubt this is going to be worth the effort.

I know this will be a pig without any doubt. I think I'm just going to keep this one electric. I just acquired a 90 size A-Star fuselage with junk mechanics. I can't even tell what the mechanics are, except it was previously modified into a gasser. I didn't get the motor in the deal. I do know it's a 90 size. I'll try to get a pic posted to see if anyone recognizes the mechanics.
It seems so many pilots are willing to let their scale items go incredibly cheap, what's up with this? This 90 size scale and mechanics, got it for $100....and it's not damaged.

Most of the time, I think it is because many people who do not buy a specific fuselage, that is already painted, with the bulkheads etc already installed, for mounting on specific mechanics, as you find in the CN1072A etc. They do not realize how much work can be involved if they just get an unpainted fuselage and try to modify whatever mechanics they have to fit into it and to prep, paint and detail the fuselage itself.

Consequently they finally give up and sell it at a loss.

IMHO They would have been much better off just getting one of the scale helis that come with the needed mechanics and if they do not like painting, then get one of the painted ones.

I hear what you're saying oldfart. In this case, the fuselage came pre-painted and detailed with bulkheads in place. I think this guy wanted to be rid of it....for whatever reason only he knows. It was just to good of a deal to pass up on my end, even if it becomes a shelf queen(big shelf) until next year. I'm in no hurry.

Gearhead, you are correct, this is electric only. It came needing only a RX, ESC, and battery to fly. Since I have everything needed, I guess I'm about to find out soon how to fly a scale. This heli came to me nearly complete. The guy who built it did a nice job. Nav lights and even a strobe light was already installed and working, as were the retracts, and camera. When I checked the balance, it's very close with the mechanics mounted back in it.

The reason I got both heli's/fuselages so cheap.....Just learned this guy's going to prison for 25 years. He's in his 40's. Not likely he'll out live his sentence.

That's the problem with those "scale guys". Always up to no good.

Century also has some multi blade heads and mechanics as a package now. This may suit your purpose as well.

I have a Predator gasser and a Predator/Wren that I would like to do a scale project with sometime. I don't think either really lend well to it though.

Best of luck

Paul
