Tried my new Rave 450 on 4S with Evo Lite 2150 packs. With Scorpion Commander mounted up front under pack, to clear Skookum 720 in the belly I am way nose heavy.
can I get away with a 1800 40C 4S pack and still get decent flight times?

Do you have the tail servo mounted on the tail boom?
If not I would install the TAIL BOOM SERVO MOUNT : RAVE 450 ND-YR-AS088 first and then balance the helicopter by moving the electronics around.

You can only move the electronics around so much. The 4s 2200mah lipos make it nose heavy. But who cares

Just fly it

I heard guys are running the 1800mah and it balances perfect.

i would totally agree with you on this...but this is for someone who is on his learning period..and just flying a heli that is nose heavy will really not help LOL

jim..searched ited up and talked to CYE today...blurr packs are the way to go if you ask me

I'll have to check the cg with my blurr packs.

Fyi, the turnigys are heavy, thus resulting in a nose heavy Rave

Lots of RAVE 450's at our field. With most 4S2200's and the tail servo on the boom you are going to be a little nose heavy no matter what you do with the electronics. We add a little weight to the tail. Mine is a steel flat washer bolted under the horizontal fin...hardly shows at all.

This one is a special project as a learning ship for a buddy. SK720 with self leveling turned on. It needs to balance. The Evo Lite 2150 packs are making it nose heavy. Turnigy 1800 would be about same.I will move the ESC around and weight the tail fin a bit.
Nose heavy makes the SK720 almost level, but always wants to skate away forward.

I have found the best way to get the CG perfect on the 450 is to use the boom mount tail servo mounts along with a custom length carbon push rod. Put the servo where it needs to be for correct CG and then make up the push rod. This makes it easy to CG the machine with a wide range of packs. The carbon push rod is used without any guides and works great.

Ah Rocket...

You beat me to the punch!

The last thing in the build I did was set the CG by moving the tail servo, then cut the push-rod in half to get the correct length, bit of heat-shrink, then cotton, then CA, then Zap, then bombarded it with protons so it was weapons grade isotopic 238 ( maybe not the last one...) and done.

If post this pic before but will try to zoom in a little:

cheers
