Mine first flight impresion of CGY 750.
Been flying helis for 4 years, normaly fly 2 trex 700 N flybared and happy with that.
Been reading alot on flybarless , but never jumped the train because i have been realy happy with my helis (4x8717,ys91.hatori,611 radix paddles and 710 sb) and feel i youst need to get flight time.
5 months ago they had a good offer on flying hobbies on Trex 550 3G (v2.1) all align electronics, nice heli for flying in winter time here in Norway i tought.
Long story short, 3G woorked out of the box with gel in the sensor and standard 12 clock gain 650 tail servo 100% setup with all the syclic (14 degrres) and needed pitch (12 degrees) in 3G and winded down in radio to 9/12 degre radio. But i didnt feel conected to the heli, cudnt/didnt wasnt abel to tweak on it because it feelt to bad to bother ( heli was flying on rails in big manuvers . but pitched in piroflips and bobbed in quick turns).
I parked the heli and started looking for parts to build it to flybared, then i saw the first video for futuba 750 fbl. Thinking back to when i went from 401 to 611 and how nice it feelt, thinking if they can build the same feeling in to elevator and roll hmmmmm. 550 standing still for 4 months , got it in the mail 2 days ago. 2 houers mounting it in , didnt bother with changing mechanic, didnt bother with swach levler and the good interaction deal that i normaly do on my helis with my 14mz. Setting it up with flight mode 4, swash if i remeber right 43/50/54 for 12 pitch and 8 syclic gains 50 50 50.
Maiden to day, lifted up and saw the tail needed lees gain, down and bring it down to 40.
Lift of again, and that was it, didnt do any trim flight youst feelt like home again flying it and liked it so mutch that i flyed mine 26 minuts of batterys forgetting about trying to tweak it. Could do all my manuvers like i do on my trex 700s smooth feeling. Piroflips spot on (no pitching, no bobbing, super smooth tail to control the piroflips). No bobbing when head speed drops flaring/landing autorotation.

Sitting here tonight with a good felling of the 550 750 combo
Gone put in some houres getting the all the geometri right, swash levler mid top bottom and same with interaction (didnt bother before because i youst wanted to try to see if it was worth the woork before i do it). But im already so happy with the perfomance of the 750 that its worth my money bringing back the 550 to life to my flying style/likings. And thinking of it is probely going to geth even bether when servotravel and evrything else is to the 750 parameters hmmm.
If i should say any thing negative it is propely to mutch expo compared to what im yoused to in my flying( dont use expo on my flybared helis), but that is youst gone be an easy adjustment.

Wanted to share this because , reading here and there i feel there is alot of warlike arguing about systems/pirocompensation(dont now what that is but didnt miss it, mayby because i dont now what im missing)

Very good. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Please take the time to go back and do the linkage compensation/swash detail in the amp. It just makes what you're already liking that much better.

Have fun!

Could you explain further what you mean by "linkage compensation/swash detail in the amp"?

Swashplate EXPERT menu has the exact same swashplate compensation mixers that are found in the 8,12's, and 14MZ. They are used to remove swashplate interactions prior to the FBL control system having to correct for the flightpath deviations that they can create if left unaddressed.

If you want another explaination of how to adjust them, you can use the notes I wrote for the mixers that are found in the FAQ section of the futaba-rc website: http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/faq-14mz-q845.html These notes are for the transmitter's menu, but the mixers work exactly the same way in the 750's amplifier.

You'll still need to read the 750 manual for a few details on how to get the mixers initially adjusting in the correct direction. They treat this slightly different than the transmitter menu does due to the amount of space on the 750 amplifier's screen for writing.

Flew mine today on my Trex700N test bird.

I am using the Align servo wheels on the inside holes, short balls on the swash inner ring. I went thru and set it up as per the CGY750 manual. Did the first flight trim, used flight mode 2 as per the manual. Also had 30% expo on the tail, NONE in the radio anywhere else. Set my Normal Flight Mode gains at 50% rate & 80% AVCS, Idle up Flight Mode gains at 50% rate & 50% AVCS. Set my cyclic to 8 degrees also as recommended.

I also did all the swash detail setup as per the manual and the linkage compensation.

Flew beautifully not one issue. I was very impressed, the governor, tail and cyclic felt very natural and smooth. Very good connection with the model. I did not have time to play with increasing the gains but it flew so nice I did not feel I had to. Autos were smooth and it did not feel like you had to put much input in as it came down.

Just thought I'd share what I found so far.

Next setup with be finalizing my 90 size electric and figuring out Dr Bens governor setup instead of using the Castle ICE Governor

Flew one on a T700 Nitro...only one flight, but I can tell Futaba has the basics covered(good vibration rejection, sharp feel, no bounce BS...you have to start there).

The Gov seemed to hold very well.

The Tail needed some tuning because it did not feel as consistant as my GY520. Its a matter of tuning...

Piro comp is definitely not part of the current SW. Its ok though they got more important basic stuff figured out first.

Once they get the piro comp figured out and put the Spektrum satellite stuff on there they will have a great system.

Oh and the interface was pretty cool, but it was definitely more ambiguous than the idiot proof vbar software. Hopefully file sharing becomes a reality for the Futaba system...would be handy.

hi just have a question, is file sharing available for the vbar?
i read about another thread on which it was complained about gy750 piro stability, can they really get it as rock solid as vbar and other systems just by software tweaking ?

finally is it more enjoyable using the vbar software on the pc or programming on the gy750 ?

For those who fly the 750 with nitro heli - does your tail servo moves to the limit of one side when the engine is running on the ground ?

Futuba 750 CGY

A litle update on my 550 with CGY 750.

Did take my time yesterday moving linkage ball on rudder to get 102/102 in travel, winded down rudder expo from -60 to -40.
Did all the head programing over again and set it up with 9 syclic 12 pitch, did take all the head interaction out(realy easy like on 14 mz, had to open the instruction book one time for getting how to shange direction on interaction direction adjustment).
Used one battery yesterday to adjust up my gains, did go to high on the gains but heli behaved OK (youst did a litle shaking here and there)went down a litle bit and now i downt see any thing thaat reminds of to high gain on the heli but can hear from time to time that the gyro woorking hard.

My trex 550 is now flying betther then my trex 700 Ns.
Feels bether, easyer transactions from postiv/negative pitch and crisp/sharp elevator/roll syclic and piroflips are easyer one my 550 then on my 700s
Realy happy with the CGY 750 and finnishd all ready in 2 batteryes tuning it to my likings (comper it up against my 700 s with good equipment).
For mi the CGY750 was bolt on and its woorking forget it equipment.

Have a nice day all helifreaks

yes mine does, just center it again with your rudder stick before takeoff.
Mine has done this always with any gyro.

For the love of the hobby

flew my nitro trex600 with 750 today, first flight with fbl, found system easy to set up, happy with heli using all basic setups, will tweak later, just wanted to see if my setup was ok, no tracking issues, used spectrum backplate sensor on ys-50, 97%-1%, had to add resistor to signal wire and + wire, worked great. HAPPY!

Please cancel my clearance, I have the field in sight. Got my RW Turbine Waiver, need lottery!
