Take the head off, drop some Marvel Myster Oil in it, apply a little heat and try to cycle it. You can also put some oil in the exhaust port. Probably just sticky after sitting so long.

+1 for just sticky if the previous owner says the engine was running. Dribble some fresh fuel in the exhaust port, in the carb and around the piston. I'd do this with the engine out of the heli so you are trying to turn the engine by hand, not with a starter.

I did hand and starter. I can see threw the glow plug hole and the top of the piston is all rusted. Seller said he going to send a 150.00 refund to replace so I just ordered a OS55hz-R.

Good to hear he made good, so many stories of people getting ripped off with no-look deals.

I dont believe the top of the piston is rusty.

Only ferrous metals rust.

Your piston is made of aluminium. Its more likely just tarnished / discolouring on the top.

Have you taken the engine out of the heli yet ?

By far this is your best option and glad to hear the seller is taking care of you. Really, getting $150 for any used OS50 is a heck of a refund and will go a long want towards a quality replacement. Um, the OS55 you ordered, yeah, that'll do.

If/when he makes good on the return and refund, he goes to the GG list.

Countless stories here about deals like this going south.

Good for you and good luck.

Well heres a update havent heard back from him but looks like paypal sent me a credit on my CC for 150.00 bucks so it all worked out. I did put the marvel oil in it and it came lose. The engine looks brand new on the outside. Just alot of goo inside. Think I will stick on here for sale for 50.00 as is since im no expert on engines.

Jusy MO on this.

If the guy was good enough to give such a fantastic credit back on this, send the motor back to him with a big Thank you.

It is common for oil to gum up an engine and (lock up) but a little oil will ussually free it right up with no damage. Aluminum pistons don't rust, thats a sign of oil gummed up. Hitting it with a starter probly just bent the rod.

The guy sounds like a good guy. He should be able to recover his losses with whats left to the engine himself. Also should received good feedback for standing behind this so well. It sounds possible that nothing was wrong with the used engine.

So the engine has freed up and is fine and looks like new.

You have had a rebate of $150.00 which is very generous, and now you are going to sell the engine !!!

If the guy has credited you for this engine this could mean you don't actually own it now?

That does not seem fair for the seller.

If there is actually nothing wrong with this engine you should return the $150 or at the very least return the engine.

This does raise a lot of questions about the buyer now?
I'm just very glad I've never sold anything to you...

No questions in my mind. When a seller refunds you for something you bought you return the item to the seller or you are stealing the item.

Either keep the item OR keep the refund. NOT both.

Well are you sending it back or selling it for $50 ?

Did you file a claim with Paypal? You didn't say you had.

If you paid using Paypal how else are you going to be credited ?

Sorry, still too many questions ? Seems like you are trying to cover your tracks now ?
