Ive always used stock align motors in my helicopters. Im now building a Trex 550 FBL for myself. Im a good sport flyer but will advance to 3D one day. for the most part basic rolls and flips. Id like to put a scorpion motor in my new heli, what should I use. I dont really know where to start. Id like to stay with the stock esc for now (its a money thing)

I could use some input or better yet some recomendations of model #'s of motors, pinion and why

Im not using TP batteries right now buy will one day. I dont want a battery hog motor,

Thanks in advance for your help

The stock motor will be more than enough for what you want unless you have money your wanting to blow.

I am planning on buying a Scorpion 4025-1100 for 6s on my 550. I think this motor will pull a lot of amps, however.

4020-1100-6s
or the big en would be 4020 1390 6s -not as efficient 13t with 553 edge fbl getting close to 6 playing and 530 pitch pumps and flips

look into Neu 1907H/1Y if you want smooth and efficient flight thats what a few outrage guys use
or go 8s efficient as he** dont know what motor to use for 8 im on 6s

So if I went with the 4020-1100-6s what tooth would I use ? is the align gear going to mount on the scorpion motor or will I have to buy one for it.

While we are on the FBL. I bought a 550E kit and bought the FBL kit, waiting for it to show up. Is there a differance in FB and FBL main blades and if so what are my options

Thanks

I have ran a 4025-1100 in a logo 500 for a couple years, and it puts out huge power. A 100amp esc is needed on 6s. .

But does the 4025-1100 really provide "huge power" for a 6s setup?

That's kind of what Im seeing too is that an HV ecs would be needed to balance out the power consumpion

HV is always better, but the 4025 on newer high c lipos packs a serious punch running 560s. Obvious trade off is flight times are fairly short with a high head speed, whereas with a hv setup you could get similar/more power and longer flight times.

I kind of look at it like my 3s and 4s raves. The 3s has the same power, but shorter flight times on larger packs then the 4s. The 4s also runs cooler.

You're running 560 blades on your 550? I thought 525mm blades and 92mm tail rotor blades were maximum possible without touching?

Hmmmm, I will be running the Edge FBL 523mm blades. I just ordered them, not sure if I should have tried the 520mm align blades that came with the kit or not but the Edge videos on FBL blades sounds pretty convincing.

The reason for this discussion was started was because I bought a new 550 kit with a 600M motor in it and the align FBL kit conversion. I know have $675.00 into a 550E FBL and can sell the gyro and head, recover say $90 so Im into a new FBL 550E for $585.00.

So, do I stick with the 600M motor, go to the 600MX or to a Scorpion motor???

I see that the FB & FBL version of the 550E come with the same exact blades

rapyd. Try the 600M. They have a ton of power. Viper makes a direct fit motor also. The frame needs to be cut for Scorpion 4025 series. I don't know about the 4020.. I am pretty sure the scorpion will toast the align ESC also. No interest in the gyro, but If you want to sell the flybar rotor head and stock blades,, PM me.

I apologize Justin, I was speaking on power for the motor, which I use in a logo 500.

I had looked at that option too because I thought the 1100 would be tough on batteries. I curious about the 1390 too but what pinion?

You can always use MrMel's headspeed calculator to determine what pinion to use.

Dave, if you want to have the option to go 8s then get the 4025-890, you can run it on 6s for now and upgrade later. The 890 on a 19 tooth 100% flat will give you plenty of power in that heli. The 890 pulls less amps as well, 80 I think, I know a few guys that have done that with their 600s and it works out very well.
