Ok I was just adding up costs on my "deal" ebay mini titan, and I have just figured out that I should have just bought the rtf kit from tower, and I probably would have not broke even, but I would have had a flyable heli right out of the gate. I am afraid to even guess how much I have tied up in all my stuff. So someone make me feel better. Tell me I'm not the only one who has spent way to much.

It is an expensive hobby, if you are too worried about costs, then maybe it isn't for you. I just try to minimize the costs the best I can and just go for it.

oh I love the hobby, and I do my best, but I do have to worry about the cost. I work hard, but I don't have a lot of extra money. I'm not complaining about that, I can keep on the way I am. I am just a little let down with the fact that I could have gotten a new bird, for about what I have in making a used bird go. I know I'm to poor to do this, but I still love doing it

I have been think about that 450 clone thing. One to fly, one or two for parts, and let-er rip. Or just keep making a stockpile of MT parts, not sure yet.

You will find the clones are of a lesser quality material than The A-Lign TRIX. But the difference in cost is astounding.

unfortunately they are out of stock but valuehobby sells an 8-pack of plastic Trex clones (airframe) for $210 thats some good learning. And 8 of them cheaper than a TREX sport. Just beware of clones if your a borderline perfectionist (Greg we all love ya buddy! ) the clones will have you dissatisfied. Parts just arent of perfect precision but dang close. The clones will last me forever and fly great. But in the hands of a 3D stickbanger I am not so sure.

If I kept track of my hobby spending, I would be depressed. It's bad luck to keep track.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I did finally bite the bullet and buy the last radio I'll ever need. And I am glad I did. Futaba 10CG got it all couldnt be happier. Spend the money in a radio its worth it preferably one that hasnt went through a bunch of faulty modulation systems. you know who you are DSM, DSM2, And now finally mimicking the others with DSMX.

I still have my old DX7 with no modulation issues at all. I wonder who starts all of those rumors about Spektrum...... The only guys I know who keep buying the newest radio is the futaba guys.....
All I know is my American express card caught on fire one nite while ordering parts and that was over $5K I don't even care anymore what I spend....

there not rumors they are on their 3rd type of modulation and none are compatible with each other why?

I am sure you have, many people have and many have not my club is about 50/50 and thats way too much IMO. Unfortunately only 2 Futaba's and they are both 100% When a guy looses his favorite ship tempers really flare.

They have problems and always have. Everyone does it in industry these days to widen margins. Automakers have problems all the time but how many people does it happen to and can you keep it quiet as to not do a recall cause thats expensive and hard on the margins.

Spektrum did not go through DSM, DSM2, and now DSMX which is much closer to Futaba's system for no reason.

Meanwhile back on topic I have 6 Futaba receivers all at a $100 but worth it.

The way I see it, is one needs a passion. For some it's motorcycles, (spent way more on them), for some it's boats, cars, airplanes, etc.

All work and no play is pretty dull. I've spent a bunch, but the beauty of heli's is you can be pretty set up with something like a 450 Pro, charger, etc. for under a thousand.

You can easily spend that on a set of golf clubs, or a couple of weekends out with your ski boat. My son probably has 10K in fish finding stuff.

Heli's are really not "that" expensive.
Matter of perspective.

A grand won't even fill the gas tank on my boat so I guess You can spend way more on this hobby if you want too.... Don't even ask what I spend on dock fees and winter storage..... Helis are really cheap compared to other hobbies.....
