Two of us at the field just installed the new head from Horizon onto our MCPXs and now they oscillate badly. Anyone else having this problem?

You fly RC helicopters? Can I have a ride?

Found that the power cord can cause the shakes.

I also just installed the replacement head and put on 10 flights. On my first hover I saw some vibration so I landed and switched the main blades around for starters. I noticed better tracking and no vibration so I marked one blade with an X and one blade grip with an X. Also keep an eye on the main gear and make sure it isn't twisted on the shaft. Make sure the flat is on the flat of the shaft. Most of all my new thing that I just realized is that I have much more trouble free flights if my power cord isn't flopping around. If I run it in such a way that it isn't flopping in the rotor down wash I have a nice steady no shake/oscillating flight. I think the flopping cord sends vibration to the main board where obviously the gyro is. After I adjusted the power cord I have had some of the best flights ever with the MCP X.

Ok

I'll try that, but ya it wasn't doing this before the head change.

It just took me a while to realize that there are a few things that cause the shakes or oscillation. Mine was on and off with the shakes and oscillation from day one. I just didn't find the cord issue till today. Here are the things I have found that cause this heli to act up. Bent feathering shaft, unbalanced blades, shifted main gear, and I never read anything about the cord flapping around but I'm starting to think it is the cause of my intermittent oscillations. Ever since I secured the cord I get great flights. The shifted main gear causes the worst troubles, It puts a good amount of vibration into the heli and gets it into a good wobble. I found the cord thing today because I knew my main gear was good and I had a brand new feathering shaft in with the replacement head. I was flying fine but then I started to get a wobble. I hovered the heli near me and spotted the cord shaking like crazy in the rotors down wash.

fwiw...

On another forum, someone posted about a peculiar heli physics issue called "Settling with power"...Afer reading this, I tested the heli doing what the aricle said would induce the phenomenon....One noticeable thing was that in its own downwash, the heli develops the shakes quickly, but flying out of the vortex stops it instantly...Just one more thing that causes the little guy to behave oddly..But it is unknown territory, and I still find it a great little heli...

Now that I have done more test flying and I know that I don't have any vibrations etc...I got the wobble again. I think what you are saying drdot is correct and I'm starting to think that HH understood this all along and provided a set of those bullet blades for this reason. I'm starting to notice that I can't fly fast with this heli with a real good battery pack and the 3d blades installed. When I'm at the very start of a stock battery or during the first few mins of flight with a Hyperion I can get the heli into a crazy wobble if I'm flying it fast. I guess these 3d blades are only for 3d and not FFF. For some reason I forgot all about the other set of blades that came with it. The heli seems much faster with the 3d blades on it but I'm not getting the wobble with the bullet blades now but I only flew it twice with them on.

I don't know what it was, but I put the old head back on and no more oscillation.

No change in anything else.

I tracked down a wobble to a slightly loose screw holding the headblock onto the main shaft. Definately check this as needed.
