Ok this might be a Weird Question how do you know a Bearing is Stainless Steel,cant Figure by looking at it,Owner of a a bearing shop sais a Magnet will not stick to it,that cant be, a magnet will stick to a Stainless steel fork Spoon etc,I just want to make sure this Bearings im putting in are Stainless Steel.

There are many different types of stainless steel.
300 series stainless is generally non-magnetic.
400 series stainless steel (such as 440C stainless) is magnetic due to its carbon content. This is what is usually used for knives, etc. because it can be hardened and tempered to a specific hardness range.
Stainless steel bearings are usually made from 400 series stainless steel and therefore would be magnetic.

Thanx for the reply,so i will just have go along with it that it is Stainless steel,as there is no method proving its Stainless.

If you got them from ebay you take your chances, if you got them from RC-Bearings, Boca, VXB or the like, I wouldnt sweat it.

Put a little water on the outside of the outer race and let it sit over night to see of it rust.........

If you use a magnet, you should a lighter pull on the SS. vs. Steel.

Thanx for the replies,i Have them in,like Barracuda said if i got them from RC i should be ok,i took a closer look the balls themselves look SS,is that the way they come and the rest is Chrome,or is the whole Bearing SS.
