I donated 1978 Lotus Esprit to K4K last year. It was valued at $5k+ and I got a receipt for $500 for the tax purposes. I could not believe it was sold for less than $500. So, when I asked for the location of auction and actual sold price, they would not give it up.

So, I look up the complaint board and what do I find.

Similar stories.

My suspicion is that they switch cars of any value with one from a junk yard and sell the donated cars themselves.

If you donate cars, beware!

You have to search to find it on there web page, but It is an organiazation that is designed to ONLY help Jewish kids.

I think there are a lot of other kids out there besides Jewish kids who want to go to camp that who could use some real help.

I would rather donate to an organization that helps kids that truly need it regardless of color/religion then one that discrimanates.

Your heart was in the right place, just too bad there are some charities like k4k.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

I think I should have donated to Salvation Army or Red Cross. But, you see these ads and you just do it because it is convenient.

I donated a car (not to this charity it went to big brothers big sisters) and was very happy with the results. The one thing I know is to ask for documentation that proves that they are a 501(C)(3) charity. As I was searching for a charity I encountered several for profit outfits that took your car sold it and gave the charity a small amout of the profits. When I would ask for the documentation that they were a 501(C)(3) charity I would always receive a hesitant reply that would tell me they were a for profit company that sold cars and would give a percentage to the charity. Ask for documentation that they are a 501(C)(3) charity and that all of the profits from the sale go to the charity. Just so you know my donation was a 1988 Iroc camaro convertible with a blown head gasket rusted in all fenders and doors and the interior was in poor condition and they got $2750 for it.

I too donated to this charity. The car was a junker but I thought I was doing a decent thing.

Charlie,

Are you still flying at the Swamp? Since days are getting longer, I might stop by when you are there.
