I use either Turnigy or Zippy 40c's 5000 mah on mine with great success.

You can get them both from the US warehouse through HobbyKing

Link to Turnigy Packs

Link to Zippy Packs (also use in my 700e)

could go with a lower "C" rating depending on your style of flying.

Be carefull of weight and balance issues. Some 5000's will cause the heli to be nose heavy with the short tail the 550 has. That 2" makes a big difference that far back.

for sport flying, Turnigy 6s 5000 25C are great at $60 shipped to your door

if 3D, then the Turnigy 6S 5000 40C are great at $90 shipped to your door

downside is they are only rated at 2C max charge rate. So if you're looking for quick charge times of 3-4C charging then look into the nano techs OR voltz batteries

Thank you all for the advise , I tested my brand new 550 E with two Hyperion 2200 mah 40C 11.1 Volts 3S with a " Y " connector and worked really great . That way I got 22.2 Volts and 6S .........I wonder if there´s any risk on doing that .
This converted battery pack with 2 3S Li-po connected together gave me 7 minutes of excellent flight conditions ( sport Mode )

ThunderPower are the best and Hyperion right behind them IMO. All the budget packs work well but if you want the best, IMO go with TP. TP 45C/65C packs and Hyperion VX/EX are the best I have tried and still own for that reason...

If you want the least expensive well there are plenty of guys advising on the HK stuff

there should be no issue running your batts in series as long as they are the same mah and C discharge rate. been running bats like that for over a year and both they and the heli are fine.

also, started running the Voltz bats late last year and LOVE them! i get longer flight and more power than any of the Hobbyking batts i've tried.

My crashes are cooler than your flying! ;^)

let me get this straight, you ran 2 3S 2200 mah Lipos and got 7 minutes of flying time on a Trex 550......

have to ask, what was the voltage reading on the cells after the flight?

I really liked my Outrage NRG batteries when I was flying my 550. But they are pricey

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Guys you were absolutely right ¡¡

Running my 550 with the two 2200 mah connected did last around 7 min ( just hovering ) but they got really hot and voltage went down and looks like they suffered a lot ..............

I´ll try to get the 5000 mah .........
