We had a discussion going at the field last weekend about the Subject line.

One arguement: The plastic wheels can't take the abuse of a FBL system, since it was constantly working the servos and the high torque placed on the wheels.

The other arguement: In the event of a crash, the metal on metal would cause much more damage to the servos since the "weak link" is no longer there.

Any comments on the merits of those arguements?

Never had an issue yet with plastic wheels standing up to the stress (I use the Futaba HD wheels/arms, they are pretty stout).
I do totally agree that in a crash, you will do far more damage with metal arms as they will hold up, but the servo will suffer. I'd much rather break the arms than the servos.

The links will get torn up before the servo wheels or gears in a metal/metal system.

But....I don't believe for a minute that plastic wheels can't take the stress.
