G'day guys,

I got my new replacement 'B' grip head in the mail today (express overnight post from our Australian distributor, OMP).

It came as an assembled head with a 'B' stamp on the top of each grip. It also came with a prepaid return envelope which I assume is to return the old head in. I guess they don't want any evidence left floating (or flying) around, lol!

Pretty simple installation. Remove the mainblades, pop off the pitch links, and remove the top rotor head screw (Jesus bolt/screw). Replace the new head, locating the very little hole in the main shaft. I used a sharp toothpick through the rotor head to help locate this hole before I screwed it in. Reconnect the links and blades and go. A short indoor test fly and all seemed fine.

I was tempted to take the new head apart to see what the differences were but I thought I'd give Eflite the benefit of the doubt. Although I did check that the spindle screw and it was tight.

Before packaging my old head to send back to OMP I took it apart to check the bearings. I had replaced my original outer grip bearings with Align bearings ~50 flights ago. I was surprised to find that both bearings were pretty notchy (the one on the slotted screw side was worse than the other). The stock inner bearings were fine btw. So much for better Align bearings, lol!

I'm not 100% sure if this fix will solve our problems (probably mini thrust bearings are ultimately the answer) but at least I hope that I don't have to duck flying blades.

Cheers,
TomC

Glad to hear the heads are making their way out to the consumers finally. Looks like a little wait for here in the U.S. Post a few updates when you get some time on the head. I took mine apart for maintenance last night and my grip bearings are showing little wear so far. I cleaned them with CRC and reoiled the bearings there's no notchy feeling to them at all. I've never been one to run any bearing dry it makes no sesne to me anyway. Also I'm not flying the heli 3D just basic flight and light aerobatics when the cojones get big lol.

Mine showed up to Texas yesterday. Not installed yet.

I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.

There is a link somewhere on the Horizon website, fill out the form and they will send you the grips free.

I found it strange they want the old grips back, it has to cost more for them to be shipped back than its worth.

I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.
