looks like the majority is driving and not flying. What day's does most people start showing up for. I seen some pics last year or year before and looked like plenty of room for camping.

The NATS for helis starts on Sunday, August 7, IRCHA 'officially' starts on Thursday the 11th, although many will be there before that. Usually no flying on the main IRCHA site until it is set up, sometime late Tuesday.
If you can swing it, best bet is to show up on Friday, make sure you hit the night fly on Saturday night, fly all day on Sunday (place is pretty slow on Sunday) then head home on Monday.

12hours in minivan the first time.
14hours last two years in below setup due to fuel prices at 9mpg (1500 round trip miles). It does 60mph level and 40mph slight incline.

This year will be a bit quicker with below.

Camping at the field is worth the experience. Plenty of night flying available and no oppresive heat to contend with.

...you might want to stay around the field Friday night. There is quite a fun gathering of soles offering food, drink and laughter. Just ask around - many know of the event of which I speak!

-Mike

Edit - Oh and I drive 5.5hrs and try to go every year if I can!

This year will cost 1500miles / 9mpg x $3.75/gal = $625 gas costs.

I would imagine that 12hours goes by very quickly for you. Not so in my case.

You are correct Benny. The drive is much easier this way. Thats the biggest reason that I went with a class C instead of a fifth wheel.

I'll have to set aside $600 for speeding tickets but z06 gets 27-30mpg on highway.

I really wanted to get that Ram 2500/3500 cummins.
But, practicality won over and ended up with an Armada.

[quote]My drive was about 13 hours from Dallas last year. Well worth the time and expense.

Justin, you did not happen to exceed any speedlimits.......just a smidgen? , man that seems very fast from there.

Then there are people like............Mark Ryder & co. that are driving from the other end of the country............

I was looking at a car for sale in Dallas and decided it was too far to drive (15 hours) from Cincinnati which is a couple hours SOUTH of Muncie. Somehow you shaved more than 4 hours from that to go from Dallas to Muncie!
