Just wondering if I drove 12hrs for a first time trip to IRCHA is it worth the long haul?
It sounds like a blast and all the videos look like it's a HELI of a time.

Has anyone been disappointed?

And anyone do the camping

I have camped at IRCHA twice, don't plan on flying there, the flightline is way too crowded. it is a good event though. I drive a bit over 8hrs.

No time limit, so nitro helis are best... on friday and saturday you have to wait in line up to half an hour sometimes

Right at 8hrs here, and don't really think you would be disappointed
driving those 12hrs. If you are into these at all and like fun
flys, you have to go to this one at least once.....but very possibly,
after your first one, it won't be your last!

It has pretty much become a 2.4 show, so you can just walk/ride to any
flight line of your choice and fly. No freq. pins, pagers or time limits, but yes, you will most likely be in for a waiting line, but
there are many times at the outer stations, you can sometimes get right up to the cone and go. And seen more and more getting 'creative'
about flying elsewhere around the site.....especially over at site 4.

If you are a 3D'r, you will more than get your fill of seeing that, and if you are into scale/and,or/vintage, there is a lot of great stuff to look at and see fly. Several spectacular scalers! And a lot of them are constantly putting on demonstrations all through the day.

And of course, if you go, don't leave before the Sat nightfly! The last couple of years, together w. the fireworks, is just something else!!!

Definitely worth it if you want to have fun. You can have as much fun not flying as you can flying. Lot of good people, and lots of different things to do if you are into this.

If this year is like last year, you will want to plan on staying for the Saturday night event.

I haven't been in a couple years. Thinking of making the trip.
15 1/2 hours from louisianna. The trip will suck but the show is always great.

Hope I can make it this year.

It's not worth hauling all your gear and flying there just for the sake of flying. But, just about everything and everyone is there so if there is a product you want to try out or someone you'd like to have look over your configuration or try your heli in flight it is worth dragging everything out. Otherwise, it's nice to visit but not something I would not want to do every year. I live 3 hours away. I was there a couple Summers ago and feel I took in the flavor of the event and saw everything but the night flying and specific people fly in a couple hours. Lest I be labeled a casual flyer, my fleet consists of 20 nitro helis from 50's thru 90's.

we drive about 13 hours. Not that fast, as pulling my 5th wheel camper slows you down a bit. Last year it was me, JR-Ric and bethomp, with 20 odd helis between us. We met up with skydivejohn, JJMAN and Fly X Cell. We pitched our canopies next to each other on main flight line. We had 2 golf carts between the 6 of us, and never really had to wait much on flying. The golf carts gave you the mobility to hit either end of the flight line and find shortest line.
Wednesday, Thursday and early Friday were non stop flying. Saturday and Sunday we actually spent more time watching demos than flying, but still had plenty.

Not including all of the stops, my drive was maybe around 13 hours from Dallas last year. Well worth the time and expense.

Plenty of open flying time on the other two flight lines. And even though they are sort of designated for certain types of flying, that sure didn't stop anyone from doing about whatever they wanted. Spend time on the main line, check out all of the vendors, then head for one of the other flight lines and fly all you want. Another great option is go a day later, stay until Monday. The main line is almost a ghost town on Sunday.

My buddy and I drove our first time from Lafayette,La.which was about 16hrs. and about 1000 miles and did not regret it. So I think you should not even think twice about driving cause it is well worth the drive.
