On the Freya 90 helis the autorotation clutch is attaced to the main shaft with only two threaded 3 mm screws. Is this adequate? I beleive the new 50 size SDX has 3.5 mm screws at that location. Should one drill out the threads on the main shaft, and use a shouldered through bolt on the Freya 90, or might that squeze the autorotation sleeve and make it out of round? I notice that the rotor head is attached to the same main shaft with 4 mm bolts. The reason for my concern is that I had a friend loose his Freya 90 when these stock threaded lower 3mm autorotation bolts failed.
Thanks for any insight you may have.

my pre-evo freya 90 has been flying great since i bought it used in 2003 with the stock set up
was the correct hirobo bolts used? or an aftermarket bolt fitted?

i agree on the first look at the set up it doesn't seem correct
but it works and hirobo must have been happy with

I have also wondered about this. I have a Freya OPII and have had many flights on it without any issues. The M3 bolts in question were replaced regularly with aftermarket ones of 12.9 grade and so far so good. Personally I would feel better if they were two M4's.

I have done that thru bolt mod with non-hardened shaft, it was OK.

With hardened shaft it could be difficult.

Original bolts are a little short, i always change them to next longer 12.9 bolts, and get them a little shorter.

Easy way is put these bolts thru sleeve without main shaft, you see then there is some space to get a little longer bolts.

I sleep better when i know i have some threads more there, i have once seen Freya head blown away in flight from these bolts.

I drilled through the main shaft of my SDX and use the M3 shoulder bolt as opposed to 2x M2.5, and I have been flying like this for a few gallons with no issue. So, you should be ok.

Rudy,

The SDX uses M3.5 bolts instead of the 3mm.
