"Rip off Britain" We're paying $11 for 20 smokes! (not that many can now afford smoking after fuelling their cars...)

Much more tax persecution and I'll be claiming asylum in Libya!

I imagine most of that fuel cost is taxes.

No wonder our robbing Gov't were so keen to introduce Litres moving us away from Gallons. A penny added to a Litre sounds a lot better than 5p to a gallon!

If "Metrification" is so important, why are we still working in road miles not kilometres over here? Mmmmm signage costs a lot to replace...
They're sooo fickle it ain't true!

About 80% of the fuel cost over here is tax!

yep. The Gov wants to complain about the oil companies making so much money and yet the gov makes FAR more money per gallon than do the people that actually provide it AND employ people.

Found an interesting list of taxes VS GDP for most countries. in general oil exporters like saudis, libians etc pay much less in taxes. For 2008 US is 28%, Uk is 38%, Denmark tops out at 50% of GDP.

Still a lot of taxes being raised in the US, but they are not relying as heavily on Gas tax as other things. (like printing money) ;-)
