Personally I think that the fbl head geometry should be better than the furion since MA have gone to much wider main grip arms. I measured this on BW's whiplash a few months ago at the Coff's funfly. I think it was ~35-36mm (versus 31-32mm on most other FBL heads I've got and/or seen). So, V-bar resolution should be pretty good but I guess we'll actually find out when someone (independantly) sets one up.

My major concern is the lack of 11t and 12t motor pinion options. Also, I don't like the fact that you cannot adjust gear meshing. While the fixed meshing sounds great because it's simple, I have yet to own a 90E heli (all MA Ionx's btw) that did not need some minor meshing adjustments over time and/or when I've replaced a main gear.

I think it's kinda strange that on the MA website it says on request you can order the nitro model with a 7.75 (16t?) or 7.29 (17t?) option at no additional cost.

I wonder if going to smaller than 13t pinions is limited due to a frame design limitation (sort of like the furion pinion size was rather limited to). Anyway, not sure it's a show-stopper for me or not right now but it well could be.

Cheers,
TomC

Also, how does adding more gear ratio options compare to using eccpm?
although the gear ratio comparison is a little more subtle they are still similar at a basic level.

Its not that the whiplash doesn't offer optional gear ratios, they are all just focused on running high head speeds. Its a Ferrari!

when the Fury came out, you COULD take the servos from you graphite SE or other mCCPM system and install them, and you could fly the model. The system just didnt' work optimally.

Look, I got it. You've already got a power system that will work better with different gear ratios than the three that are offered.

They've done a LOT of testing with all the gear ratios on all three types of models and optimized each model for them. Maybe down the road they will offer some other combinations.

If you're not flying a gasoline helicopter
You're paying 10 times too much for fuel!!

I apologize for my last post as I was not in a good mood. I still think that if possible more gear ratios should be offered. I have already purchased another motor with a 450 kv rating so I should be fine.

I just received a Scorpion 4525-520LE for my Whiplash. I am still wondering what ESC to go for.

Option 1
I have a HobbyWing 120HV lying around. I will have V-bar so it will be governed by that. Will cost me nothing, but I will need a LiFe receiver pack.

Option 2
I have a Kontronik 80+ HV on a Logo 600 that could be swapped with the HW 120. Should probably have that mounted on the tray behind the mast if possible, for better cooling. Will cost me nothing. Use internal BEC.

Option 3
Buy a Jive 120+ HV, use internal BEC. Will cost me a lot!

Go with the HobbyWing and V-Bar for the best governor. Make sure your HW ESC has the older firmware (prior to V1.08 I believe) or it won't play well with the V-Bar. I think the Hobbyking rebranded HW ESC also has the older firmware.

One caveat with the HW, make sure you set the parameters correctly for your motor! Many are burning them up like CC's using the wrong settings.

YGE is also a viable choice. As is Scorpion.

Do the Scorpion ESCs now come with a built-in fire extinguisher???

How it got in my pajamas I'll never know

I dont know what version my HW have. All the fires are ofcourse what make me unshure of this one. As well as if I reduce my headspeed I might run to low speed reference on the ESC.

Using my Jive 80+ HV I can worry less on the speed reference, was my thought, as they handles low speed ref much better. As well as being able to use the BEC, saving a cople of hundred grams skipping the LiFe pack.
Kontronik say the added heatsink will almost double the ESC rating, so it should be no problem I beleive?? I have seen Burt Kammerer also run CC 80 HV on the T-rex 700E without issues.

Jive 120 would give me perfect piece of mind. But very expencive if not really required.

YGE I have looked at, but its almost the price of the Jive and I would still need the LiFe pack. Scorpion ESC I dont know if I thrust that much.

We are working on it! We are doing the pre-assemblies right now, and finishing up the manual. I know all of us at MA and HeliWholesaler are really excited to get this model released. It won't be long now

Will all versions (electric/nitro and FB/FBL) be shipped at the same time, or will some of us have to wait longer than others? I'm eager to get my hands on the EL FBL.
