You can bring your own golf cart provided it doesn't have knobby tires
How knobby is knobby? Are mini bike tires too knobby?

IF they are not slick type turf tires they are not acceptable. In years past however, wrapping tires with duct tape was accepted. Don't know if that will fly this year though.

I just read AMA's rules and did not see where it says any thing about tires. Have not heard this before.

It's probably not an AMA rule but just my guess it's one from the IRCHA board that puts on this event. They don't want the ground tore up by vehicles with rough tires.

It is enforced by IRCHA, as they have had to pay to replace turn / crops that some people decided to destroy while driving their Quads and gold carts with knobbed tires. If they are not basically completely smooth (Like drag racing tires), you cannot use it. Even most bike tires probably wouldn't be allowed if a motor were attached to them.

They basically want you to slip and slide if you floor it as opposed to tearing about the grass or worse. I know that they had to pay a ton of money to local farmers and AMA for damage done in the past.

Yeh! A.Z sure put some trails back a few years back riding through the corn patches, like a mile! I would think there was a pissed off farmer that year. that kinda ruins things a bit for stupid crap like that.

I have a 2hp electric easy go golfcart with the golf course type tires. It goes any where I want it to just really slowly. Some Electric helis develop more horsepower than my cart.

If you shred the turf people get mad, if you shred the air people cheer!!!

If you are in one of the rental carts, the rental company has onsite personnel. If you are seen abusing one of their carts they WILL take it away, no questions asked, no refund. It's in the contract you sign with them. The did it to a guy last year on the second night. Sure stops all that silly golf cart racing that a few unruly people do after they have been enjoying adult beverages.

My IRCHA recollections

A few minutes to write about my trip to IRCHA from last year, for those that have been asking what to expect. From my 1 trip, a great time BTW, I have a few thoughts, in no particular order.

I was thinking about this the other day, I would describe it as a HAPPENING, a great big, unbelievable, fun technical, awe inspiring, very hot helicopter happening. From the 1st drive in to the AMA flying site there is a feeling that you are at a special place. This is OUR place, a Flying place! All this struck me even before I saw all the banners and welcome signs.

As I drove in and saw that there were multiple roads and flying sites, all the pictures and the aerial views from the IRCHA website started to sink in and a smile came on that stayed with me for the entire time I was there. Then you get to see the flight line and exhaust smoke. The flight line extends to the left for what seems like as far as you can see. In fact it may actually be about a half mile long with helis in the air and on the ground in the flight stations. Something about all that smoke makes me think of a take off on the jet guys.. I love the smell of nitro in the morning!

Checking in with the golf cart folks was a pleasure. They had it all set up for me, parked the car, transferred my gear and off into the total heli immersion. 2 rows of vendors and everything you can imaging for your helis. All the newest and surprisingly even things you didn’t know about or know that you needed. I can’t begin to tell you how many trips I made up & down those isles. And every one there is into helis in one way or another. Actually met some of the guys at breakfast at the hotel in Muncie that morning & then again through out the event.

No recollection would be complete without the people. Over the years many of us have been posting to various websites and in one way or another talking to and learning from each other. Now was the chance to meet these folks, shake hands hello, fly with each other, spot for each other – every flight needs a spotter at IRCHA - and actually make friends, as well as renew some friendships from other events.

I saw flying that was just about impossible to believe and I was standing as a volunteer marshal as one fellow was just bursting with pride, having to tell some one – anyone “ I just had my first flight without training gear!” His pride at his accomplishment was just great! I sat in on several sessions on how to do technical builds / rebuilds & set ups on different brands of helis and on some seminars.

As I drove around the huge area and flew at different sites I can to find places I liked to fly more than others, & got some great lessons that I still practice & use. For me, I need a lot of space to turn my heli around, so I like the less crowded areas & leave the 3D to the guys & woment that can really twist their machines around.

The whole time slathering sunscreen on during the days & mosquito repellent after dusk. During the days, drinking lots of G2 to keep hydrated, it was HOT! The SWARM party, now Helipoloza was a total blast, night flying with spot lights, I brought a 2 million candlepower spot, eating and having a rum balls and a drink or 2 with more friends.

Sat. night was the fundraiser for MS for the fireworks show. It didn’t hurt winning some EDGE blades in the auction earlier. The competitive night flying followed by the fireworks show was something like I’ve never seen 20 – 30 minutes with lit up helis flying in, under & over an amazing fireworks show was just simple the best I have ever seen, actually jaw dropping would be the best description.

I left there thinking this was just one of the best events I had ever been to, looking forward to coming back on a regular basis. For those of you coming for the 1st time I hope you have as much fun. For those of you that have been there before and those that make this event happen, I hope my recollections seems like a fair representation. See you in Muncie, say Hi when we meet, I’ll be the one with the big smile on my face and the “Flying Foot Doc” on my neck strap that was made there last year! Andy

Inverted IS more fun!

It was really cool meeting the MIKADO TEAM.

It is so cool to take it easy and just walk around and check everything out.

If Heli's are your passion then this is a must see.

Andy - that seems pretty spot on to me.
This will be my 4th trip in the last 5 years and it's a blast every year. Just the best event and thanks to all those involved.

They should have set up a MCPX area. Maybe next year. My 9yr old only needs a 10'x10' box to practice his flying/hovering. This is going to be one hell of a 40th Birthday for me! and it is my first time attending.

All you first timers are going to be blown away by the scope of this event. This will be my sixth ircha and I know the first time I was just amazed. I am still thrilled to go every year. A nearly mile long flight line. The noon demos are awesome, the prizes they give away could fill a warehouse. The Saturday nite night flying is like none you have ever seen and the fireworks is the second best I have ever seen, only Disney is better, and ircha is close on that one too.

I have been wanting to go to IRCHA and had a couple guys lined up to go. Things fell apart and they can't go. So I said 'screw it',,I'll go it alone. I just made the pre-register deadline yesterday,,,,and I did get a hold of the golf cart folks and have one reserved.

I've never been to a funfly at all,,,this is all very new to me. Kind of sucks going alone,,but I have no trouble finding/making friends.

BUT,,,I'm not sure what to do about camping. I'll be bringing my pop-up tent trailer and I do NOT need elec or water hook ups. Who do I contact about camping? Is this a first-come/first-served deal? Or do I need to reserve a spot?

Last-minute panic,,,I know,,but from what I've heard,,this is worth the hassle!!

Thx!!

Randy
