Well, of course when you load-up the blades, they make noise appropriate for an 800 !! But when I say quiet, I mean the mechanics...just like Logo 600 is quiet compared to other 600's.

I believe it is the combination of the herringbone gears, the two stage belt/TT tail drive system, large gears on large gears etc. Also, the head speed doesn't have to be 2000+ to get stellar performance, so things sound "relaxed" a little.

Quote, "...what headspeed..."

We have experimented with everything from 1200 up to 1900. Don't ask me why (I'm not a rotor dynamics engineer), but it doesn't matter what the head speed is. The dampening is tight enough for solid "on-rails" high speed flight and aggressive 3D flight, but no "bobbles" at 1200 either.

Like a 600SE at a really low head speed, the XXtreme is almost silent at 1200 (not really, but I hope you get what I mean). Above 1900, it's kinda like a Logo 600-3D running @ 2300 or 2400, you're wasting more electrons than it's worth. But 1500-1600 for sport and mild 3D flying, and 1700-1800 for aggressive 3D is lookin' pretty good (the jury is still out on 1800...not sure it's worth the loss in flight time). Kyle seems to be centering on 1700 as a good place to be for his flying style. That may change with more experience with the model, but that's in the ballpark.

Yes 800mm blades, I take it he likes 14s better on 700 and 800 blades, opposed to 12s

I've been waiting to see this for some time, holding off on a 700 purchase. I'm a little disappointed that this won't be the "Logo" style frame I've come to admire in the 600. That clean, unique design is part of what make a Mikado and Mikado. Hope to see what's under the canopy soon.

Instead it looks like Mikado is going for "size" to distinguish itself in this part of the market. I'll wait for the reviews to make a decision. But going with a more traditional setup, makes this heli seem more like much of the competition. I'm leaning more towards an Aurora at this point, as something that big and wide seems initially unappealing. But maybe the flight performance and other factors will make it a winner.

$189.99 RH has them up (not in stock)

I really want to here reports on the power systems etc (not really fussed about pics, although a vid would be nice).

12S or 14S, 710MM or 800MM, is it too heavy for 710MM? What RPMs is best etc etc, is the 800MM not really any benifit?

I know from the past that "stretching" a heli to swing larger blades does work but not ideal there are limitations, i like that idea of smacking a 800MM blade machine around!

I will have to be gentle on my wallet in the meantime to make sure i have funds when this beast is out!

I don't get it.
For me the 800 thing is just a hype.
The benefit for the xxetreme is that because its so heavy you would get a better disk load with 800 blades. I dont think it will be more agile.

But maybe I miss something here.....

If you want a agile machine get a Protos500, a 450 or smaller...
A machine with real presence and which withstands even the worst manoeuvre, that would be something I want to have. And there's a real lack in 700 class right now. Every available design has some drawbacks (bent spindles and shafts, shaved gears and twisting frames, ...).
After flying a real 700 for some time now, I don't really want to go back to a (stretched) 600... and if weight is higher because of it's powerful design, than I would have flown it as 800+ anyway.

heavy???

In the german Forum someone was at the Rotor Live in germany and Mikado's owner Ralf told him that the xxtreme would weight 5 kg and more to 5,5 kg.... so yes it is heavy.
And its no surprise. A 12mm Spindle 14mm Mainshaft and this huge head add a lot of weight, not to menschion the frisby big main gear.

think how light it will be with 800's though! Probably comparable to how a 600se is on 690's, but much stouter. (not comparable on actual weight, but comparison to others in its class)

My 800 comes in at 5.4kgs (11.9 lbs) with 12 5000's and a Scorpion 5035, the motor is near on 700 grams by itself. Flys great, fast and agile....certainly no slouch in the air.

It could loose a bit of weight if I was using a Jive, no need for a RX pack and reg then.

We'll have to "re-orient" ourselves as to what's considered heavy and what's not in the "800 class". "700 class" weights don't translate over.

As an example, a set of Edge 813's (@ about 280 grams each blade), and two Voltz 7S 5100mah packs (at about 926 grams each), all added up makes the weight of the batteries and blades ALONE at about 5.3 pounds (2.41 kg).

Yikes you say!! And you should. "800 class" 3D helis aren't your old "700 class" helis just made bigger (well, I think there ARE some stretched 700's out there, and they are probably pretty light weight as "800's" go). But if you want your "800 class" heli to be 3D capable in the extreme, they are going to weigh more for sure.

Yes, 14S with the 800 blades. We've been so focused on proving the heli as an "800" (we need to make decisions concerning upcoming events..."700" or "800", or just stay with the Logo 600??), that we've not paid much attention to the machine as a "700". That's coming-up.

ESC is the YGE 160 (as it will go out to 14S) using the V-Bar's governor.

5.5kg is heavy if it is a 700 but remember not long ago a raptor90 weight around that.

Let's make a disk loading comparaison.

800mm 1.8m ? dia : 2.544m2 => 5.5kg/2.544 = 2.162 kg/m2 (XXtreme)
690mm 1.56m dia : 1.91m2 => 4.3kg/1.91m2 = 2.25 kg/m2 (600se)
690mm 1.56m dia : 1.91m2 => 4.9kg/1.91m2 = 2.565 kg/m2 (700E ?)

Tip speed:
1700 rpm xxtreme : 160m/s
1950 rpm 600SE : 159m/s
2100 rpm 700E : 171m/s

Humm this heli heli will have better collective response than a 600SE at 1950rpm

a 700e blade would produce 15% more lift for the same collective.
but have 18.6% more disk loading

To me it seem that this heli will perform like hell.
Be prepared seem something

I think indeed that our perception will change about helis.
