Ok gang, it's 1995 all over again. And as we recall, the then-revolutionary Gingrich-led house sent Slick Willy a budget that he wouldn't sign. So he vetoes the bill, the govt shuts down, and immediately the democrats and their allies in the media blame the Gingrich and his cohorts for Clinton's lack of leadership on the budget as is req'd to be submitted by the President.

Of course, a pliable, niave, and ignorant public buys it 100% and blame the repubs for "shuttin' down da gov't"

Ok, so here we are again- how will it play out on this deja-vu? Since Barry won't do it, will the repubs at least take a faint stab at some spending reductions, or will will they p*ssy out again and get suckered by Barry and the spendocrats?

Step 1: they send Barry a budget;
Step 2: he either vetoes or a pocket veto;
Step 3, OMG!!! OMG!!!! the gov't shuts down!!! OMG!!! The sky's falling!!!
Step 4: Barry, the dems, and the media blame the repubs;
Step 5: The dipsticks who reply on the nightly news buy it and the repubs, yet again, take the fall.

I'd like to think the repubs learned their lesson, but past is prologue.

What say you?

I think its totally possible this could very well bounce back on the Dems. If the Gov does shut down, it will be shown that the Dems will not do any spending cuts and Obama is going to veto them anyway.

Whats crucially different between now and when Clinton was in office is 2 things:

#1) An almost $5.5 trillion debt and growing that is owned by the Dems. They created it mostly by themselves with a little help from Bush his last 2 years and mostly by Palosi and her pals during the last 2 years at the anger of the American public.

#2) The American Tea Party

Dennis, if only.

My counterpoint to you is:

The gullible & apathetic ignorant electorate who get their news from ABC, NBC, CBS, The New York Times, ad nauseum; and who believe every word from Brian Williams, Perky Katie Couric, & Diane Sawyer. Big Media blames the repubs, and the naive dipsh*ts fall for it.

Notwithstanding the Tea Party and all this debt/deficit that Barry's run up, the media will spin it to the "mean/nasty repubs who want to starve grandma".

You can take that to the bank.

My counterpoint to you is:
We do have the elections from last November to be cautiously optimistic.

For all of you who are giddy with the prospect of a government shutdown I suggest you seek out some folks like disabled veterans who may not receive their checks, or cannot go to the VA hospital, or folks on Social Security whose checks will be delayed, or the thousands of government employees who will not get paid and cannot pay their mortgage/rent or buy food or the many thousand and thousands of other that will be impacted. Ask them if they share your delight at this prospect.

Yes, I know I am a bleeding heart because I posses the ability to think about others and not just myself, but so be it.

If it's that bad of a thing I guess you better hope that your wonderful president and senators will pass the budget!

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!

This right here is the core of the issue. I was not a fan of Bush, but I never viewed him as anything other than my President.

Maybe if you started thinking as an American and not as a conservative or libertarian you might have a different view of things. Yes, I know this will enrage you "Real Amurikans" all wrapped in the flag and such, but the disrespect that so many show and the intense need for your side to be right at any cost to me verges on Un-American conduct.

Of course the congress will continue to get paid, probably thru a self serving emergency budget or something, plus they will give themselves a raise.

I think Pelosi and Obama are planning to force a shut down because they believe their own storyline that it helped Clinton. I'm not sure voters really factored that in on the following election. Sure republicans lost around nine seats but that was after an election that gave them a record number. When that occurred, my dad heard a sob story on the local news about how the government would need to lay off federal fishing guides. He called Mitch Mcconnell's office and sarcastically complained about the lack of fishing guides and asked what we were supposed to do now. A few weeks or months later, an official came to visit apologizing for the problem with the fishing guides. Dad told them that he didn't care about fishing guides and that he thought he was sarcastic enough that they knew he was joking.

Too bad they don't understand that it does not benefit anyone. The number of people digusted with both parties for all their disfunctional party weirdness has grown quite a bit in recent years.

The number of registered voters identifying as independent is no longer a minority in some states. There is no clear definition of what those voters are looking for, but safe to say this is not it.

Let's distill it down this way:

Just WHAT were last November's historic landslide elections about?

Answer: a gigantic restraining order on this completely out-of-control spending & so-called 'bailouts'. Mr. President will not lead- he can't, and he knows it. His base knows it. The media know it.

The game now is: "fix the blame".

My orig question was, and still is: will it be 1995 deju-vu all over again.

I wish I were optimistic- but we know today, just as we knew then, that "those nasty, mean-spirited, tightwad republicans want to starve grandma".

Some things never change.
