Hi chaps,

I am looking for a Trex 600 ESP and as I am used to petrol heli's (bergen EB and a GSR) I know very little about electric.

The reason I want a Trex is to make a more affordable platform to shoot from as my current GSR is worth over £7,000 and I prefer to use it for more industrial jobs. Where as the Trex would be for small real estate jobs and personal pics. Also I want something less than 7Kg to be inline with some of the UK CAA rulings as getting ATC permission to fly each time is a pain just for small jobs.

I have been looking at just a standard Trex 600ESP and a photo ship One 2XPT. I shoot with a Nikon D40X, Panasonic SD600, and a canon G10. Will a standard Trex 600 with the standard motor and ESC etc.. be able to cope or should I look at a different motor or ESC setup. If so please can you advise. I would also consider stretching it to a 700e if I can keep it under 7Kg fully loaded.

Sorry for the long winded post I just dont want to invest in completely the wrong thing, also, putting in searches on RR has found me many different answers to which I know little about. Never thought I would go electric but hey... there is a requirement!

Cheers

Phil

I use a trex 600 e and find it`s very smooth with no bad vibes
I was using it with an old eos 350 but now use a 500d
You can use two 5000mah batteies linked to give you around 12 mins flight time

Heres what I use and it works great. very little vibes; I can run a gopro and contour all day w/o jello.

600esp & PS1 2XPT front mount
stretched with Radix 713 & trex 700 boom/torque tube, and tail blades
Xera 4030 3Y w/ 16t Rhino pinion
CC85HV w/ gov enabled. headspeed is 1640rpm constant
12S (two 6S 5000 Turnigy's)
Outrage FBL head
KDE thrusted main bearings and blocks
Stock Align voltage regulator
Ace One stabilization system

All of this together makes for a great platform. Im getting roughly 13 minutes of useable flight time; everything comes down warm, not hot. So far, this heli has done me well.

Thanks for the kind replies. Just a quick question on stretching it to a 700. If I did this would the heli weigh more than 7Kg fully loaded. Bearing in mind I would be using a DSLR Nikon D40X as my heaviest camera on a 2xpt front mount.

webdr - how is that CCHV85 treating you in GOV Mode..
Everyone tells me not to use it in GOV.. How is it running in GOV? Is the tail surging at all? Ever have issues with that?

Are you running Set RPM? also what gain and head speed change rate (if ya know off the top of your head)?

also, have you tried running a higher head speed? I run my stretch at 1800 rpm fixed endpoints with a 640kv motor and 14t pinion.

how is 1640 treatin ya? I like the authority I feel in the tail at 1800.. I am running 115mm tail blades also.

I may try a smaller pinion and lower headspeed if ya can convince me! LOL

madmcphil - yah the trex setup is a cheap airframe that has proven itself... I dont think you can go wrong... I will say at this point though.. if you decide to stretch the 600 to a 700 just go buy the Electric 700... I would have done that but it wasnt out yet... I also have a stretch 600:700 like webdr... works great! But the 700E has .1mod pinion like the GSR (Beefy). and you wouldn't have to stretch it! If your happy with the size of just the 600.. go that route and keep it at 600... you will want 12S though for the flight times and load capabilities. dont bother stretching a 600 anymore... just get 700E.

I dont have the program open to check parameters cause im at work, but Ill say the CC85HV works just fine. 1640 is treating me well. I had a realization on how long my flight times are:
I flew some test flights yesterday. After an 11 minute 45 second flight I landed and checked the eagle tree screen. I had only burned 2475mah on a 12s 5000 setup
And that was fast forward flight mixed in with hovering.
Ive tried a few different head speeds and experienced a little tail twitch at higher RPM's. Could I have tuned it out in the Castle program? Maybe. But dropping to 1640 removed all twitching.

cheers for the great reply guys, especially to vrwired. Been looking at the Trex 3G flybarless but things are starting to get pricey. Just trying to make up my mind.

Knowing so little on electrics I feel whatever I choose could be a gamble!

As long as I can keep everything under 7Kg I will be happy. Sounds like stretching will cost me close enough to a 700 anyways (new motor, esc, boom, strutts, fins, batteries, blades).

So my next big question is:

If I go with a Align Trex700 3G Flybarless with the new MX motor.... will the stock MX motor, stock esc easily handle a front mount and dslr camera weighing around 2kgs?

If no.... then the Stretched trex 600 is going to be cheaper!

Keep more posts coming... peoples opinions and experiences are worth their weight in gold....
